Hi Bo. I've been following this thread with great interest for months, but I have never posted on it. Thank you for all the incredible input (and patience). With regards to the above comment, do you still lean more toward a particular standard for ...

I'm beginning to wonder if this issue might be where the real value in the vhands simulator lies. The information is virtually the same, but our "perception" of it is different. I traded some old 4H charts from mid 2006 on the GBP/USD. At that time ...

I'm in absolute agreement with blueruby. While certainly an easy way out for some of us, I'm concerned that the introduction of a system may put boundaries on my own "journey". As well it may limit your time and enthusiasm for interacting with us on ...

I've been turning this question over in my head for awhile too... For me there are 2 scary issues with 100% automated trading. I don't know if they are realistic issues or just my own paranoia, but here they are: 1) No room for discretion or "feel" ...

Heh, well that's the dirty little secret about "bio-fuel". It's also why the big petroleum companies are more than happy to mix their stuff with any amount of ethanol consumers demand. For 1 calorie of ethanol produced, 10 calories of petroleum are ...

What about the real value of those pips? I realized I may have caused confusion with my comment about "big money". To clarify... When my money management rules are applied, pips attain a specific value unique to each trade. I first calculate the ...

I just tried the old 5/13/62 EMA cross strategy to define up, down, or range bound conditions. I didn't experiment with other moving averages because I don't think it's a worthwhile pursuit. TA mentioned that since the MA's are lagging indicators, ...

Billbss stated it perfectly in the previous post. The reason I think of this system as more discretionary in nature is that the one "discretionary" element of the system seems to have by far the greatest impact on profitability. In looking at your ...

Here are my observations so far... I did some extensive backtesting with something similar in mind except that I used 3 moving averages to define up-trend, down-trend, and range bound conditions. I took every trade the BAT indicator said to take ...

EA's are tools. Firebird is a tool, and it can be a dangerous tool. When used carelessly a power saw is incredibly dangerous, but that doesn't make it an "unsound" instrument in and of itself. Left alone for any length of time, I think the very idea ...

I created a "game" account, then looked up the list of current competitions. For some reason there is no "join this contest" button next to the FF contest. Has it been closed? edit: Ok, I feel a little thick... It looks like membership was closed ...

I'm not completely clear on what you mean by asymetrical leverage. Regarding a set % of account risk on a trade-by-trade basis, I can see how this would be a bad idea if the R/R was less than 1:1. (which certainly doesn't mean a system is "bad"... ...

I haven't tried it, but I bet it's worth a try. I think my primary concern would be getting "overloaded" with trade signals. This can be a busy little EA! But for an experienced trader, that's probably the best filter of all.

In my opinion: EA's are trading tools. Firebird is a great tool for a specific set of market conditions. I wouldn't use a wrench to hammer a nail... I increased my live account 50% with this tool, and I held on to my gains. Not bragging... I'm sure ...
