With a reward-to-risk ratio of .33 he'll need 75% of his trades to be winners in order to break even (somewhat higher because of the spread). He seems to be doing fine so far.

The primary reason for not sharing a profitable system is that once too many people start using it, the system loses its edge and stops being profitable. If you ever develop a winning system, never ever share it with anyone.

Excellent point, chevelle. Total pip count is absolutely meaningless if you don't know what those pips are worth.

You're making it more complicated than it actually is. Pip value is just Risk/Stop_Size.

Your friend is right. Both scenarios have the same expected payoff per trade, so there won't be any major differences in long-term profits. But having a 90% hit rate will make drawdowns less severe.
