  • Greece Shows How to Handle the Crisis

    From bnnbloomberg.ca

The Covid-19 epidemic has exposed poor leadership and governance worldwide. From Spain to the U.K. to the U.S., politicians have waited far too long before taking the dramatic steps needed to protect their citizens. Greece has been one noticeable — and perhaps surprising — exception to this trend. The government imposed severe social distancing measures at a much earlier stage of the epidemic than other southern European countries. For now, this swift reaction has helped Greece avoid the tragic healthcare crisis that richer states are facing. Takis Pappas, a political scientist at the University of Helsinki, has ... Yes, we do great virus-wise due to getting measures earlier, but the tradeoff is that the economy was [email protected] up earlier .
Hopefully, the recovery will be speedier since the system & psychology of the people have not suffered as much due to the very low number of deaths.

"Survival of the fittest" as Darwin wrote it did not mean the strongest and healthiest rather the best "fit" in their environment. The ability to adapt. As for population control if the virus were to run rampant and wipe out the old an infirm there would be a subsequent boom in births as younger people free from burdens would go forth and multiply like all the horny buggers do. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger is a dumb and inaccurate cliche.

On this we are both correct; adaptation and those who procreated the most, which were usually the healthiest and strongest.

Actually you make my case for me....removal socioeconomic burdens and create a healthy vibrant workforce!

The economic damage that the world has self-imposed upon itself will be far worse than the loss of 250,000 lives worldwide!

Why is the infection rate in California so much less than NY? Have you asked yourself that - especially when California has such a large Chinese population as compared to NY? Maybe the coronavirus arrived in the USA in California in November of 2019? Maybe all those people who had the flu really had Cov19 but since it hadn't been classified they didn't know!

Watch what happens in Denmark when they send the little ones back to school. Kids being kids will transmit this and bring it home to their parents who will hopefuly get over the illness within 1-2 weeks and then you have herd immunity - of course homes with grandparents and sick people will succumb but....

Greek record on early recognition of the threat very interesting.. Id not looked at the Greek response before.
Look at the cases per million and deaths per million columns. Greece apparently like China locked down fast and decisively.
