  • Trump weighs new trade investigation to justify tariffs on EU

    From politico.com

Trump administration officials are considering whether to start a new trade investigation against the European Union as the window closes for hitting Brussels with automobile tariffs, according to multiple people briefed on the issue. Such a move would mean that European auto imports wouldn't be subject to duties out of national security concerns, but the trading bloc would be subject to a much broader inquiry, the people said. “What it would do is it would create a situation that for another year would give the president leverage over the EU,” said a former administration official. Here we go again with Lex Americana.
The world according to MAGA.
But the world (ie the other 95% of the worlds population) is getting pretty pissed of with this narrative.
And the US needs to recalibrate its trade and general policy of mutual respect with its allies,
because its rapidly pissing away 50 years of influence and trust with its oldest and most reliable allies.
Sure US is the worlds superpower. Sure its has been the beacon to many and deserved the respect its had from its free world allies for those 50 years. And maybe that relationship needs to be reset.. but this is NOT the way to do it. just like the current discourse with China is not the smart way to reset that relationship either.
Just my opinion.

Former U.S. attorney Nick Akerman, who prosecuted the Watergate case, said U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland’s Wednesday testimony in the House impeachment inquiry marked a “tipping point” for President Trump.

"Yesterday was the tipping point completely," Akerman told Newsweek.

"There's no defense to any of it now, there's nothing. What's he going to say, the Devil made me do it? That's what they're left with. There's no good defense. There's no good reason why he did this. It's purely for personal campaign purposes," he continued.
