  • The $250 billion of goods from China taxed at 25%, will be taxed at 30%

For many years China (and many other countries) has been taking advantage of the United States on Trade, Intellectual Property Theft, and much more. Our Country has been losing HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS a year to China, with no end in sight....

Trumps actions are unhelpful for making a deal with China and unhelpful for traders who have to deal with the extra layer of risk he creates.

He did wait till after the weekly close of the market. Usually news of this impact, when it occurs on a Friday or Saturday seem to have their effects blunted by the time of the next week's open. As if giving the markets time to properly digest the news lessens the impact. He may reverse course over the weekend too, especially on the most preposterous exhortation that American biz immediately cease operating in China. As if !

He is forcing the FED to cut. Giving the FED the reason to if they can't find it by now. Its a race to zero now. And a race to negative for many. Trillions are out there running around printed post 2008. CHF will go even more negative and still will find the Franc running away in strength as everyone looks for trillions to find a safe haven in a negative yield world.

Trump just told the FED if you won't cut then I will force you to cut. Do not expect any retreat from this plan now. Nothing changes until the FED Sept meeting and of course a weak US dollar to follow.

The recession is going to come no matter what. They almost had rates normalized and then the trade war impact took hold. Well that and Brexit and the general malaise in global consumption.

He needs to be careful that China doesn't decide to weaponise the enormous amounts of US treasury paper they hold.

That would get really ugly...

I trade by reading price sequences in real-time (i.e. using the Iterated Functions System (IFS) formalism of fractal geometry). I only trade Gold. The market is of course unpredictable as established by chaos theory -------> Some posters above suggest (as a result of Trump's tweet) that the market will gap up (what is called a price jump in fractal geometry) but that is neither here nor there -----------> however, it also is not unlikely (but not because of Trump rather, if it occurs, it would be the result of pent up buying pressure constrained by trading time in terms of the microstructure pairing of available orders). What one can say at this point (from reading the statics of market action at close Friday), is that Friday market action initiated a sequence change from what we call a persistent series down to a persistent series up. This means that Gold has reverted to its erstwhile cyclic trend up (implying that the system down was what so-called "technical" traders call a "correction"). To your question however, I doubt that anyone would know for certain. What might be useful to appreciate is that Gold is now strongly deviated to the upside across all scales (as opposed to the downturn which was limited to M1 - H4 only or the intraday feed). So we all who trade Gold should be looking now to buy dips (the specifics of which depend on how you read and interpret market action).

Is the truth hurting or is it so that you are not allowed to criticize the "chosen one"? Only he can bash other people and by doing so many times put their lives in danger.
I guess it is also just fine to criticize and blame Obama for everything.

He may be a wacko but another, even more dangerous possibility is that the POTUS knows well what he is doing. He just does not give a damn about economy, all he cares about is to get him and his family to another presidential term. This is why he keeps pondering in his tweets to his half-wit supporters. Ignorants need simplistic ideas on how things are and this is precisely what he is selling them. DT has alwas been a brilliant BS merchant.

Irrelevant. One does not to be a politician to be able to criticise a politician. In fact, this is one of democracy's pillars: the leader's action is always a subject of public scrutiny. Worldwide, if such leader, and his country, pretends to be the world's No.1. You do not like it? Consider moving to North Korea, then. It should suit you better, than free world.

Lie.

GDP growth was actually better when Obama was in charge. And he did it WITHOUT these megalomaniac tax cuts.

Achievements Donald Trump:
- Record high Trade deficit with China
- Record high Debt growth (1.2 trillion a year !!!)
- GDP growth 2.2 percent, debt build up 5.6 percent per year, that's great organic growth isn't it !
- Losing the trade war BIG TIME
- Rustbelt is toast, losing manufacturing jobs like there is no tomorrow
- Kim is doing daily missile tests / having fun about clumsy DT (just like everybody else in this world)

BTW Labor participation rate is 6 percent lower no wonder you have low unemployment. Just make sure a large chunk of your population doesn't participate and you'll get a great unemployment rate. Employment rate is lower than France, can you believe that Manu !!!??

Fact of the matter is, Trump is the worst president ever, he's such a loser, I mean a loser-loser. Impeachment is too late.

And BTW, under Obama unemployment dropped at a much faster pace, job growth actually SLOWED DOWN under DT. As you can see since DT is in office unemployment leveled off

Aren't you adorable. Do you actually believe he only takes a dollar a year to serve. He donates his $400k salary to the government, ostensibly for the tax write-off. But he makes that amount and more EVERY WEEK by requiring administration travel be booked at his properties (the one's he was supposed to not have an interest in while serving, but still does). The whole presidency is pretty much a grift, and he's making a lot of money. And as has been said by barkie above, Trump simply rode a trend in the economy, and then actually slowed down the pace of improvement. All the while, adding debt at a faster pace. And one other point that barkie didn't mention, some of the markets, like soybean, that Trump has destroyed, are never coming back.

I hope you are joking. He endangered the racist anti-semit Omar by posting what she actually said? She is a danger to herself and others by her lack of common sense. And she indeed made fun of americans being afraid of Al Kaida, as if those were normal people. People like her deserve much worse...

{quote} I hope you are joking. He endangered the racist anti-semit Omar by posting what she actually said? She is a danger to herself and others by her lack of common sense. And she indeed made fun of americans being afraid of Al Kaida, as if those were normal people. People like her deserve much worse...

She has been voted to congress in democratic elections to represent the people who have voted for her. You are basically saying that only people who share the same opinions in congress should be able to be there. No other opinions need to respected and the POTUS can freely attack anyone who opposes him. That is a very autocratic approach and hopefully it is also fine when the other side wins.

I think my neighbors dog could do a better job and would definitely vote for it over Donald Trump.

My greatest wish is Trump would buy Greenland, move there and bring all his followers with him.

No, I am not saying that, don't put words in my mouth. She has been elected on completely different rhetoric, now when in congress, her views and opinions turned completely, so I am sure she won't make it into congress again.

And other opinions? So when I say holocaust wasn't as bad, its just another opinion? And if I said so and somebody pointed that out and I got dead threats, it wouldn't be my fault, but the person's who pointed that out fault? Just an example.

Come on, I know you hate Trump, but that doesn't mean you have to defend everyone who is against him, even the complete morons, who are obviously racist and hateful.
Everyone can see the chart, but only a few can actually read it.

I was not defending her in particular, I'm defending democracy and the right for people to have different opinions without having to fear for their lives because of them as this is what happens in dictatorships. I don't hate anyone but I do dislike people who cannot give any respect to others opinions and who believe that they always know better.
An intelligent person understands that he or she knows very little but a stupid person doesn't understand that. That's why an intelligent person never calls himself intelligent but a stupid person can do it.

And BTW, under Obama unemployment dropped at a much faster pace, job growth actually SLOWED DOWN under DT. As you can see since DT is in office unemployment leveled off {image}

I know Barky isn't so dense as to fail to understand that uhbamma threw 10t at the economy, which had just bottomed when he was inaugurated. Barky knows well that a recovery after a blow-up like 2007-8 will be a strong one, if the administration even tries a little. We know that the administration was a limp noodle, and spent 8 freebie years, making a marginal come-back by writing hot checks. Then, when the international financiers tried to bring the Trump economy down by throwing interest on, that we can't possibly afford, the fed was simply trying to drive us into the dirt like rigganomics. It didn't happen because of some solid emergency actions by the administration. Barky knows all of this but is intent to use some hardly related facts to disprove what he knows but doesn't like.

He takes a dollar a year, while getting free publicity for his properties, and who know what other kickbacks under the table?! Are you so naive to really think he cleaned up the swamp like he proclaimed?? And yean, *apparently* the unemployment rate is so great - except they recently announced that it was some kind of reporting error and several hundred thousand jobs that appeared to have been created in the last year, actually had never been.
