  • Britain's two main parties get Brexit bashing in local election

    From uk.reuters.com

English voters frustrated with the deadlock over Brexit have punished Prime Minister Theresa May’s Conservatives and the main opposition Labour Party in local elections, early results showed on Friday. The results of Thursday’s elections are another display of how Britain’s 2016 vote to leave the European Union has split voters beyond traditional party lines and are a first indication of the damage Brexit has done to the two big parties. The frustration sometimes boiled over. One audience member shouted “Why don’t you resign?” before May addressed Conservatives in Wales and some ballot papers were ... (full story)

There is a lesson here. Once in a downward spiral there never is a bottom.
Britain you have given up everything else, all that is left to give up is Britain.
Well on your way to that end as of now.

Massive surge for the pro-EU Liberal Democrats as I said numerous times, the reality is that the UK wants to remain in the EU. They won't admit this, it would be a catastrophic loss of face for them. We know we know.

Squeeze from whom and why did Brexit appear? This is after the terrorist attacks in London, people voted for a way out for politicians? I offer my sincere condolences to the people of Great Britain for these terrorist attacks. Or is there another reason? Let them figure out the reasons. There are many reasons in the world for them to understand and they are: whether the chosen politician will decide the reasons or not! What they have done and for what announcing Brexit! This is a fairy tale about a white elephant ..........................? Buy an elephant ? I don't need an elephant. -No buy an elephant. What for? I don't need an elephant .- Everyone says that they don't need an elephant, but you buy an elephant ???? )))) You do not have an elephant. -I know. And you buy an elephant !!

Just wait for the euro elections then you will see if we want to stay in the EU

Council elections don't mean Jack shit. So the Libtards just got a few default votes.

All is good hear in the Uk, we are just run by treasonous MP's who will be outed in the real elections.

There was nobody for Brexiteers to vote for in these council elections, apart from independents and they had massive gains. The Brexit party wasn't formed in time for these but as Ghostship says, wait for the European elections where we can vote for Brexit again and you will be surprised about how much we want to leave.

Unfortunately, according to the EU rules (along with about 5 million other rules) we HAVE to take part, and no we don't want to take part either.

There is a little detail you missed.

The EU elections, unlike your Referendum and local elections, are open to all
EU citizens. How do you think all those "foreigners" you Brexiteers loathe so much will vote? For Brexit Party, or against?

I didn't miss that point, it won't matter how other countries vote, OUR vote is the one that will matter to US and to the way the newspapers look at us and the Brexit party will probably clean up.

It is NOT a hate of foreigners, I have many friends that came here to work from other countries, it is a hate of bureauocracy.

When we voted to go into the common market in the 70's it was a common market and it was a good thing, NOW it is far far more than that even to the point they want to see an EU army! It is not only the UK that wants to see change, there are a lot of other countries unhappy and want to see change.

A lot of politicians should resign, on all sides, this is the problem we face, we voted to leave (and 1.25 million MORE voted to leave than to stay, and that is NOT a slim margin) and we have a parliament that wants to stay, and are going against the vote we had and were promised would be respected. That is why this is going on so long and its a disgrace.

I think you did, and continue to do.

According to EU rules every EU member state citizen that is a long term resident of another EU member state has the right to vote either in the elections of their country of citizenship OR in the elections of the country of long term residence (but not both).

https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizen...s/index_en.htm

It means the EU rules give the right of long term residents in UK from other EU countries the right to vote in the UK elections for UK parties/candidates. So, many EU freedom-of-movement residents in UK who either feel strongly against or are harmed by Brexit can opt to vote for pro-EU UK candidates, this being their only possibility to have a say in Brexit. How many of them will choose to do so remains to be seen.

It is a long standing, and quite detrimental in my opinion, tradition for the EU elections to be dominated by domestic issues. It seems like this time the UK voting will become a surrogate for the 2nd referendum, with potentially considerably wider electoral base than an actual referendum. Hence, the calculations of Farage, Rees-Mogg and co. and supporters how they are gonna do a landslide and show up in Brussels to sabotage while collecting >8000 euro/month from OUR tax money may turn out to be quite off.

Its hard to have a 'strong view' unless one is ego invested in the process. But on balance of probabilities if it happens it could be in a year's time or not. The 'or not' bit is the tricky one as it could be that it is an exit in name only, with an as yet unspecified customs union - which the UK government and the main opposition party are trying to cobble together. ('No deal' exit is now not going to happen by parliamentary decree.)

I agree Lisa.....and I struggle to believe that what is in this Daily Express article ( https://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/1122958/brexit-news-latest-theresa-may-jeremy-corny-eu-deal-customs-union-plan ) could actually come to pass. If that happens, I would expect to see a general strike in the UK because that is what is needed imo, just to underline to these self serving politicians who is in charge here. I doubt it (general strike) would happen though....if we were talking about France, it would have already happened I suspect!!

I dont see how any of that article means I have missed the point, I agree it will become a surrogate for a 2nd referendum and there will be some EU citizens in the UK who will vote for a pro eu candidate, but in general, there is never a large turnout in this country for EU elections, that will probably turn around this time with the anger being felt in this country.

I don't agree with you saying from "OUR" tax money when the UK is one of the highest net contributors to the EU budget! I think it can be classed as ALL our tax money....furthermore just goes to show what a waste of money that is.

Channeling your inner Karl Marx are we now? Judging from this level of rhetoric from you, I have no doubt you have marched lock and step with Stalin's brigades in a previous incarnation! Good job! At least you are consistent on where you stand with things! No surprise!

Go ye of your chains and lick the boots of your masters if you wish and be gone to ever call yourself a fellow countrymen of mine!
