  • Fed's Bullard: Hopeful of decision soon on balance sheet size

    From fxstreet.com

In an interview with CNBC, St. Louis Fed President James Bullard noted that the January jobs data was very strong. Key quotes (via Reuters) Banks reserve demand will be larger than expected. Looking for some yield curve steepening. Economic growth slowdown does not necessarily mean anything negative. Should not presume Fed move one way or other. Time to wait and see how economy develops. Hopeful of decision soon on balance sheet size.

They are going to sit on the EURUSD until after 10am NY time, regardless of where it ends up today. The banks are not going to let it touch 1.15 till after 10am. Expect some totally unexpected news after 10am, then watch all the backward looking news sites say "oh the jobs report was this or that" and the EUR rallied". complete and utter rubbish.

Fadhl, you must look at the seasonal trend in gold, very often gold rises in Jan and Feb. Many people are concerned about the worlds stock markets, GOLD is a safety net, Had you bought GOLD on the 31.12 2018 you would have been in around 1278 its now 1321.

Don't make the mistake in thinking fundamentals rule the market, there are factors at play you and I know nothing about that are driving these markets.

IMHO the fundamentals don't really support a stronger euro.

As no more rate hikes, Equities are going up and as inflation is down, Gold should go down.
No, I didn't sold in Dec., but I sold it now at 1321 looking for 1300. GL to all of us!

In longer term the fundamentals rule. Last year at this time EURUSD was around $1.25, the current price correlates quite well with the rate difference between EU and USA. For sure there are other factors which can play a major role.

hey hurst why would you say after 10am? are you talking about the options expiry and it hitting 1.15 where banks would lose 1.2bn? So option expiry occurs at 3 PM GMT for the day and then after 3 PM GMT it can't be exercised?

Correct and if you look at the EURUSD you can see the banks at work no one can move the EURUSD like that unless you have seriously deep pockets
