  • Britons would now vote to stay in EU, want second referendum: poll

    From reuters.com

More Britons want to remain a member of the European Union than leave, according to a survey published on Sunday which also showed voters want to make the final decision themselves. Britain is due leave the EU on March 29, but Prime Minister Theresa May is struggling to get her exit deal approved by parliament, opening up huge uncertainty over whether a deal is possible, or even whether the country will leave at all. The survey by polling firm YouGov showed that if a referendum were held immediately, 46 percent would vote to remain, 39 percent would vote to leave, and the rest either did not know, would not vote, or ... what a fake news ... U.K- people are a proud nation . They will never changed their mind. The survey published is more than a propaganda for remainers.

"The survey by polling firm YouGov showed that if a referendum were held immediately, 46 percent would vote to remain, 39 percent would vote to leave"

The same clowns that said this about brexit 2016 "Remain 52%, Leave 48%"

They should probably lay low a bit longer until the public forgets how misrepresentative their poll was last time.

edit: change of wording to satisfy "Gupz"

they were wrong????? In 2016 they didnt make a 'prediction', they conducted a survey. Similarly, they have done another survey in 2019 and they are merely posting the results of that survey. It has nothing to do with them being right or wrong about anything.

Sure, it's only because Reuter bring such a headline is more or less to encourage to have a 2nd referendum, thus the remainer have nothing to lose, because they lost in the first one already.
And reuter or BBC are acting as a pro EU median with lots of propaganda.

It is not going to be as easy as that.

A new referendum with a remain in Europe outcome will need approval of other EU members.

A wife starts a divorce process suddenly sees that terms may not be favourable, then withdraws the case in court, the husband has to agree again because the divorce process would have caused some damages to the relationship.

This is very bullish for GBP and a Brexit sooner than later. After all the bad press for the PM and no deal such a high proportion supporting Brexit is astounding!

Thanks for that Gupz, the 2016 Yougov poll simply didn't represent the actual result of the referendum. I have edited my comments to reflect your point.
According to the law dictionary there are 3 types of mis-representation:

Fraudulent misrepresentation.
Negligent misrepresentation.
Innocent misrepresentation.

I will happily let readers conclude for themselves which one they think applies in the case of "Yougov" polls

As largely position/fundamental driven GBP traders for over a decade with a sole focus in making money from macroeconomic trends and major Market risk mispricing. Its not surprising then that Brexit has given us our most successful trading run since 2008. Nor that we find reading comments here in support of that policy so full of inaccuracies, and analytical misjudgement, of concern, because of their influence on retail traders whos propensity to loose money in Fx is widely acknowledged.
This Brexit crisis on which 1-3 year horizon GBP levels are so dependent, is in many senses unique since it is based on a self created crisis, based on ideological aspirations, which are unfortunately have involved political decisions entirely disconnected from their economic consequences.
Our reading of Market mispricing to date is based on the misjudgement that rationality and pragmatism will ultimately prevail. And ultimately it will, but for GBP and the UK economy its our judgement that it will happen too late to avoid further very serious irreparable damage to both GBP and UK economy.

The key point is the UK people have lost faith in the current set of politicians - who so far have squandered time created false flags and generally have not delivered on what they were voted in to do - 'in the best interests of the country'. The disconnect between reason and emotion will persist until time has fully run out and the process becomes a default.

'The best interest of the country' is a little more complex than common people are able to assess.
Sure, they want lots of jobs, higher wages, mooore freedom, no ugly dangerous strangers, bankers lynched... and all of these they want them NOW!

Economy involves political, social, financial, and all kind of macro sophisticated indies and specific elements that even the experts can have problems to handle.
So paradoxically, in some areas people might not be aware what's the best even for themselves on longer term!

Ok, I'm not saying democracy is a mistake ... but still...

For Information:

To trade successfully in this GBP/Brexit quagmire.. its important to read and assess data properly.
So with respect, I point out the data you have republished above relates to a narrow survey of TORY (UK Conservative) PARTY MEMBERS/Voters ONLY. It is NOT representative of the electorate, .. and does not represent the wider sentiment of the British Public. It helps nobody when the limitations of data republished is unclear.

An indication of how unrepresentative of Public sentiment these figures are, may be gauged by the fact that the same subset of the electorate Tory Party members (75%), apparently believe that a no-deal Brexit would not cause serious disruption a view directly contradicted by both the the electoral majority and the majority of MPs. It should also be remembered that the Conservative (TORY Party) is a MINORITY Party and a Minority Government.

In the interests of balance, I suggest Traders/analysts contrast this to the latest and largest poll of ALL voters YouGov survey published last week ***(25000) which reveals that a clear majority are now in favour of a Second Look Referendum, as the only fair and democratic way to resolve the UKs Parliamentary paralysis and ensure a democratic decision on the options available. This is particularly pertinent since that similar polls consistently report a major swing in voter sentiment to reversing of the 2016 decision, in the light of the choices now available.
