Australian unemployment tumbles to 5%
Australia’s unemployment rate has fallen to the lowest level since April 2015. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), the unemployment rate tumbled to 5.0% in September in seasonally adjusted terms, well below the 5.3% level forecast by economists. Employment increased by 5,600, well below the 15,000 lift expected by economists. Full-time employment increased by 20,300, partially offset by a drop in part-time workers of 14,700. Trend unemployment rate at six-year low
The trend unemployment rate remained steady at 5.2 per cent in the month of September 2018 after the August figure was revised down, according to the latest figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). "Today's figures continue to show a gradual decrease in the trend unemployment rate that began in late 2014. The trend unemployment rate of 5.2 per cent is the lowest it has been since mid 2012." said the Chief Economist for the ABS, Bruce Hockman.
