When you trade long enough you will learn the hard way or easy way that the markets do whatever they want....big boys the kind of guys who actually cause such big moves don't play by normal rules... we retail traders are almost predictable especially when it comes to interpretation of fundamental news....yo on yo own out there....protect your bottom-line.
Stop fighting, let it go......you will be surprised..

For commentors believing this was news in the last minutes that spiked the currency, this headline announcement from Bloomberg states it was out 6 hours ago:
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-10-01/hammond-defends-brexit-plan-expects-compromise-tory-update.
If you were long gbp you were lucky to get this spike, if you were short hopefully your stop loss should have given some protection but this type of move will continue ad infinitum in the trading world. All you can do is simply protect for it .

The EU will not give the UK a deal that makes us look better off out of the block, even though a no deal would damage their economy. If they did other countries might want to jump the fence.
Therefore, be prepared for GBPUSD to test the 1.20 lows within the next few months on an imminent no deal Brexit!

You think? In reality a positive outcome (deal) is plus plus on both sides of the negotiating table. There would be a greater danger for the EU en mass, if only a punitive outcome is pursued.

Wrong, a free trade deal would be a punitive outcome for the EU.

We pay 3 times as much as the UK taxpayer, have to follow EU regulation and common trade deals and respect the four freedoms.

Who wouldn't want to have everything for free that would be a dream come true.

A free trade deal would set a precedent and blow up the EU, everybody would claim the same freebies.

No deal is a good deal.

Lol to those moaning about stop losses on news. I've got an idea for you; stop day trading like muppets then lol.

Sell the pound against the dollar because there's NFP later in the week (GBP artificially propped currently, so it'll have the biggest volatility on Friday), and hedge it by selling the dollar against a safe haven like the Yen (good price to buy the Yen atm as well).

Time will tell. Major risk for the EU is to go headlong against the tide of populism - like listening to the rumblings of Mount Etna and putting one’s hands over one’s ears and saying ‘La, La, L’Lala’ as loud as one can ....!

The idea is to hedge your bets so that you cut the loser and work into the winner at NFP, because I don't care who you are, nobody knows which way prices will swing on this week's volatility. It's to benefit from volatility (which, if you are a good trader who hedges properly, you will almost always make money from) not to double your win with the GBP AND the Yen.

Seriously, the witch hunt and conspiracy about GBP market fraud (like the British government are making announcements just to ruin a couple of retail traders' days - come on, get over yourselves and stop being so arrogant) and not understanding the basic principles of a hedge really deteriorates the integrity of this entire forum.

Errrrr.....

You do know that 80% of the British, Canadian, Aussie "news", what a joke are known 2-3-7 hours in advance???

Right???
Errrrr....

Or ohhhh you didn't notice.....

Go look at the chart 2 hours, that's 7:30 UK, before "the news".
