Great, they've just killed my short term short on gold, F.....ers! When will congress finally remove these clowns from the White house? It's crazy trading not knowing when new Twit from the orange guy or some of his minions will hit you. V-shape reversals were rarity, now they're becoming a norm.

Bloomberg and Thomson Reuters are all over the news right now. I'm waiting for a Trump's twit now, saying Ross was just kidding, when he gets an angry call from Goldman Sachs and Juncker. We've seen this in the past. It's hard to manipulate price of gold to the downside if your president is declaring open trade war against US closest allies. Go figure, world is becoming mad men's playground.

This was rumoured all week that Trump would announce the tariffs today.

From Bloomberg:

"U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell, in an interview with the New York Times, suggested the president might be willing to grant the EU bloc permanent exemption from the trade tariffs in exchange for strong co-operation with the US on Iran.

The linkage tactic may seem outrageous to politicians in Berlin and Brussels. It may be dismissed as mere Trumpian impulse by others. But it's not so easily ignored or countered....

... bullies don't tend to keep friends, so Europe's acquiescence may come at a later price. Trump isn’t concerned about the mess that has to be cleaned up later."

How short sited is that?

Dear Tom,

Isn't that the POINT? For too long the US has been getting KILLED in trade negotiations and one-sided deals. The USA was soooo predictable about everything. NOW, it is no longer status quo. The problem is that this uncertanity will cause people to re-think everything....people don't like change but change is a comin......

It's not short sighted at all. In fact it's pure genius!

The original Iranian deal was dumb. The Europeans LOVED it because now they could trade with IRAN and it cost them NOTHING! The US paid a billion dollars in unmarked bills so that the Iranians would shut down their nuclear program - we paid but they didn't shut down anything....they changed the name and moved it to a different location.

When Trump announced that the US would no longer honor that crappy deal the Iranians were quick to jump onto the nuclear bandwagon very quickly weren't they? Now if the EU nations trade with Iran they can't trade with the US PLUS there is a tarriff on their products to boot!

Do you think that Iran will purchase the amount of EU crap that the US does? I don't think so....

That's why Trump announced the tarriff now....to put more pressure to the EU. Break off trading with Iran and make them starve or screw yourself out of the US market/

with counter-sanctions being imposed by trade partners (if you can still call them "partners" - the rest of the world may well decide to cut USA right out of their import/export business and just stick to other countries that obey the WTO rules) the overall global effect will be an increase in the price of motor vehicles, aircraft and so on. so USA may very well end up all on its own and non-US vehicle manufacturers may well close down their US plants and move them elsewhere. that may well be great for countries in Africa e.g. who already manufacture Mercedes Benz and BMW vehicles for export to Europe and elsewhere. Really smart thinking Donny, you mastermind.

The Presidents in the White House have clowned around for decades bending the US over with bad deals and an uneven play field. Now we have a long overdue and proper response. In the end a natural balance will level the teeter totter instead of having the heavy weight of bad policies on one side.
