  • When one of history’s 'greatest trades' finally blows up, it could get ugly all over

    From marketwatch.com

Bitcoin’s face-melting rally toward $10,000 (see our chart of the day below) is the talk of financial circles these days. But if it is, indeed, the dangerous bubble many believe it to be, its inevitable implosion will pale in comparison to the potential damage caused by the demise of one of the best trades the Wall Street has ever seen: Shorting the VIX. You’d have to be living under a rock — or maybe just a normal person who doesn’t fixate on the stock market — to not notice the incredible lack of volatility in this bull run. This persistent trend has lined the pocket of any investor who’s been ... (full story)

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

My take on all news items is that those speaking/writing about it, usually includes them leaning heavily on their ego, to show the world they really know what the future holds. When in reality, no ones knows squat, which includes me!

When inclined to read/watch these folks, it's easy to be entertained by these talking heads. And that's usually what they're on about, because of the rewards from recognition, or material items.

Can it happen that the btc price suddenly goes down to $100 in the next few hours?

My understanding is that with bitcoin there is no stability mechanism like there is with currencies
so if suddenly everyone starts to sell btc at the same time it could fall a very long way.
Have a nice day

{quote} What are you going to do when one day the servers freeze and you can't get out? Example: suddenly there is too much volatility and the btc liquidity providers shut down their server temporarily so you can't get out of a losing trade for hours. Then the servers come back up and your SL gets executed at -3000 pips and you then owe your broker $100,000 or $200,000 or more? Or are the trade sizes small and you don't run this risk?... Can it happen that the btc price suddenly goes down to $100 in the next few hours?

Don't be surprised when your fiat currency blows up. Stocks have been pumped up by the faQE money of central banks. If you keep doing the same thing don't expect to get different results. Printing more money has never worked, except for being inflationary.

Well think of this,
our fiat currencies have a government guarantee and our central banks intervene to provide price stability.

In my eyes a country's currency has a value derived by real worth (a country is worth something)
but what is the value of an instrument like btc?
Its value is really limited to the amount of its security holdings so its current value is highly questionable.

You don't have to buy a whole Bitcoin you can buy up to eight decimal places of a Bitcoin e.g 0.00011000 BTC and that would cost $1.06 at this moment in Bitcoins price, and each purchase would add up in Bitcoin value.
Don't wait for the wind, take to the oars.

At least for now, Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are more as assets than actual currencies. In the future, if cryptocurrencies are widely used, would world governments make them illegal in their countries.
The market is designed to fool most of the people, most of the time.

Central Banks have been testing the cryptocurrency Etherium more commonly known as Ether (ETH). There is a war on cash, as the banking world want to convert to a digital currency, as the banks will have more control over your account. Once the banks convert to a digital currency, how will you withdraw your money if there is no longer any cash to withdraw. We are part way there with the use of credit cards and contactless payments. Credit cards are unsecured loans with no assets to secure the debt and unsecured debt that is spiralling out of control. In the UK that unsecured debt is £1.6 Trillion.
Don't wait for the wind, take to the oars.

And what makes you think that all this unsecured debt is not recoverable or that it poses a risk to the financial system?

The majority of people will never be able to default on our debt because we have income plus assets so the banks have got us by the balls

Credit card use is growing because the banks provide incentives for us to use them.
For example, I do all my shopping with the cards so I use the bank's money for the whole month and at the end of each month the card gets paid off automatically.
Ok I'm not a good example because many people will only pay the minimum required so their credit card debt is being charged over 20% interest and is increasing.

I'm not concerned about the banks, they make billions every year,
I'm only concerned about the people who get fooled and get into credit card debt.
Have a nice day

Me too, and I've been doing this for so long that the bank is now fighting back. Won't increase my credit limit, have moved the bill collection date to within days of the next balance determination so that I can only 'borrow' half my credit limit (more or less). I expect they will be quite glad when I have closed the account.

Maybe it is time for some subterfuge.....

It is true that QE seems to pump the stock market and not do much else. It does not seem to cause inflation which is commonly believed to be the hope of the CBs. If you look at Japan and Europe there is no inflation and a seemingly endless stream of QE.

On the brighter side it does seem that the Japanese have finally beaten deflation. It took them 25 years ... it seems.

In some institutional trading circles bitcoin is huge thing right now, especially in Asia!

Many investors expect BTC/USD to reach 100K+ as early as 2020, 1Mil in 2025 and over 10mil in 2030.
The fin-tech industry is working harder than even. Most CEO's in the banking industry expect criptocurrencies to replace fiat 100% before the 2035.

If you do not own bitcoin today - you are making probably the biggest mistake of your life!

You talking selling bitcoin and pushing price to 100-1000???
Using futures??
Only in theory buddy.

Neither banks nor morons are so many, or so strong, as to sell something that doesn't exist....I mean supply /demand is very non-elastic.

I mean selling 20 000 000+ bitcoins will put a dent. Yes. Down to $2000-5000-7000 price....
Snowball effects?? Panic sell?? Margin call. OK.

Then the smart people will buy, say at $1000-3000 or less and DEMAND their bitcoin.

Now you tell me, where the futures/morons traders will find 10 or 20 million bitcoins???

It is spread-betting, not actual buy/sell. More interesting ... it is a demo account. So who are they protecting with that?

I messed around with the stops to see if it was that, but no joy

And Comex/Crimex will just cash settle like they do with gold contracts (read the fine print) and start the shorting cycle process over. However I'm beginning to believe BTC is being allowed to rise to sucker the public in digital currency. THAT above all else is Central Bankers ultimate objective.

Once everyone is locked into the digital money prison where every transaction is traced, tracked, and all value is trapped, then actual Negative Rates aren't far behind and since the aim is to completely kill cash there will be no escape from the theft.

If Central Banks and their vassal governments can't steal purchasing power through inflation, they'd then have a new weapon to steal value.

Point being, while I originally expected Comex shenanigans for BTC, I no longer believe that to be the likely scenario. Rather this instrument likely has 1000's of % more to run so as to lure Joe Public into the digital money space, whence a legal tender Central Bank digital currency may be introduced.

The only question is how much money printing and plunge protection will be required to protect the stock market shell game as the BTC bubble steals more and more capital from equities. Lets be honest, another year of 1000% return and even the artificial +20% from S&P, Dow, and Nasdaq is going to look unattractive by comparison..
