  • Federal Reserve issues FOMC statement

    From federalreserve.gov

Information received since the Federal Open Market Committee met in September indicates that the labor market has continued to strengthen and that economic activity has been rising at a solid rate despite hurricane-related disruptions. Although the hurricanes caused a drop in payroll employment in September, the unemployment rate declined further. Household spending has been expanding at a moderate rate, and growth in business fixed investment has picked up in recent quarters. Gasoline prices rose in the aftermath of the hurricanes, boosting overall inflation in September; however, inflation for items other than food ... (full story)

  • Fed Signals December Hike On Track as Trump Weighs Next Chair

    From bloomberg.com

Federal Reserve officials voted unanimously to leave interest rates unchanged while signaling they remain on track to hike once more this year, a day before President Donald Trump plans to unveil his choice to lead the U.S. central bank. Recent data indicate that “the labor market has continued to strengthen and that economic activity has been rising at a solid rate despite hurricane-related disruptions,” the Federal Open Market Committee said in a statement Wednesday following a two-day meeting in Washington. Officials gave no sign that their expectations for a third interest-rate increase this year have been ... (full story)

So, it seems they're concerned about low inflation despite good economic readings lately.

I wouldn't trade right now... not until the dust clears first.

If there is no tax reform, we're going to see some weakness in the dollar, if not an outright rout.

Trump can't have his pie and eat it too. At least, he gets what he wants - a weaker dollar.

We may see no rate hike at all this year: "Puzzled by the failure of inflation to advance as forecast, some Fed officials have signaled they might favor holding off on another 2017 rate hike to wait for evidence of faster price rises. "

You can safely bet on a rate hike. The Fed wouldn't sacrifice it's already precarious public image by flopping on strong statements.

Besides that, Data is good! Trump is Good! Good things are happening if we shake away the incessant fear. All is well and USD is a good bet if you want security.

(Just watch the Petro-yuan, this is a coffin maker for America.)

The prob. of a Dec rate hike has been over 90% for weeks according to CME Fed Rate monitor. A December hike is priced in already.

There must be a psychological term for trying to correlate something that is important to a lot of people with something that is important to you in particular.

What I mean is, all of you posting here, trying to understand what is happening to the USD so you can trade the USD are all crazy. If it is hard to understand then there is nothing to trade, don't try to understand something difficult so you can trade it, trade something that is easy to understand. You can make the same money whether you are trading something important to the rest of the world or if you are trading something boring like the NZDCHF.

My opposing forecast for USDCAD is 1.1100 after hitting 1.30 or thereabouts. Don't forget the stock market is at a dangerous high, tax reform is ripe for failure or will be watered down, FED is hiking rates when inflation is this low, US President is a maniac who wants a weak dollar to prop up exports, etc. Too many potential dangers to even think about 1.37 for USDCAD.
