When ECB was so upset with Britons voting to leave the ECB how much more will Spain be upset with Catalonia wanting to leave Spain. Spain will try tooth and nail to prevent this.

Enough with this nationalism / separatism bullshit. Name of the state is just a detail on paper. Catalan people aren't like any other oppressed minority groups in the 3rd world. Having an independant state won't make them a super power either. Yes the region is like 20% richer than the country per capita, and they don't receive enough federal investment for each € they pay in taxes. Though by this logic, the US should be divided into 30 independent states.

What does all of this mean for euro? Buy high sell low, as always.

They are richer because F. Franco "gave" them large parts of industries which were located elsewhere - to keep them quiet. This worked quite well.
Nowadays they keep receiving about double the investments other regions get but they still want more - always do!

It's just a question of money... and selfishness. Yes, they don't receive so much as they pay... because they are above the average and we fortunately live in a distributive taxing system... the more you earn the more you contribute. CONTRIBUTE! But they refer to that as "MADRID (CAPITAL CITY) STEALS OUR MONEY". Of course they probably do it better as an independent economy, but so could be said by any other regional territory above the average. Selfish mentality, that's all. From the legal point of view Spain belongs to the Spaniards, so all Spaniards should vote if they admit a part of their territory go independent. But of course they say the rest of Spaniards don't have any right about "their" land, and they don't have any problem in lying about the foundation of Spain to claim their "right".

Im not fan of Franco (for obvius reasons),but what Go5 said is totally true,Franco gave them at 1942 (and Valencia) the exclusive right to hold industrial international expositions per example. And we can add more examples of advantages,because the recent industry of Catalonia is due to a decree law of the dictator
which put factories in Catalonia. Everybody can google it and read the history.


Anyway Franco died a long time ago (fortunately).


Talking about the present and not about Franco or other dark times,the rating agency Moody's downgraded Catalan debt from Ba2 to Ba3 at 2016,these years have been financed thanks to Spain.
