  • PM Abe dissolves lower house for snap election

    Prime Minister Shinzo Abe dissolved the House of Representatives on Sept. 28 for a snap general election. At an extraordinary Cabinet meeting later in the day, the government will approve a schedule under which official campaigning will kick off on Oct. 10 for an Oct. 22 election.

It doesn't mean anything. Follow the technicals more than the fundamentals. This is what the big boys do. The rest is just noise.

what would be the reason for japan to call a snap election? do they not have scheduled elections? (ignorant foreigner)

Normally a party in power will only call a snap election if it thinks there is a good chance for it to gain a stronger position against the opposition.
