  • Merkel says UK offer on EU citizens' rights post-Brexit 'a good start'; EU to decide future of UK-based agencies by Nov

    From straitstimes.com

German Chancellor Angela Merkel gave a cautious welcome on Thursday (June 22) to British Prime Minister Theresa May's offer on EU citizens' rights post-Brexit, saying it was a "good start" but more needed to be done. "This is a good start. But of course there are still many, many other questions," Merkel said after May outlined the plans at a European Union leaders' summit in Brussels. Merkel cited Britain's exit bill for leaving the EU and the border in Northern Ireland. "We still have a lot to do here," she told reporters. Over dinner with her 27 EU counterparts, May promised EU citizens living in Britain ... (full story)

"Over dinner with her 27 EU counterparts, May promised EU citizens living in Britain that they could stay after Brexit, with permanent rights to healthcare, education, welfare and pensions equivalent to British nationals".

"But a clash looms over May's refusal to let the EU's top court oversee the process and any resulting disputes".

So, EU wants UK to foot the bill but EU wants to be the adjudicator...

Lol, fk, typical....

Just what is it about residing in the UK, receiving its' benefits and being subject to UK law that is so fukcing unreasonable or difficult to swallow....

Poor Eu just can't let go....

What a waste of time this article is. Nothing on the rights or what May actually said. Not a word. Just a lot a waffle about EU countries pitching to have EU agencies transferred from the UK to their particular country. Drivel.

you are correct. Our dear moderators or should I say something else but I would be banned again like this kind of drivel but if you ask other people a question and would like to hear from other people something that if true would effect a currency they in their almighty wisdom play god and ban the question. They will probably ban this too. oh well

I would call it smart negotiation tactics, you gotta aim high, then at the end the counterparty thinks they won the lottery when they get a few breadcrumbs out of this. The EU has much better negotiators and at the end of the day it's a dog-eat-dog world out there.

Merkel is being very shrewd here. She knows that IF she can get the EU (German) citizens subject to European rule inside the UK it opens a door for the European courts to have supremacy within the UK at least to some extent and from that she reckons she can get the whole caboodle.

NO other nation on earth would allow supremacy over their courts to another country and neither should we. This is something that we Must Not agree to.! If they are here they should be under UK
jurisdiction and vice versa. Can you see say US or China or Russia allowing anything else?

On the contrary, It is May who aimed high causing Junker to say she is living in another universe. She is now throwing some crumbs to eu citizens caught in the cross fire and will secure favourable brexit terms
Come with me if you want to live....

Some of the "facts" you have posted are wrong and are clearly being spread by Muslim haters. I would advise you to be careful what you post here, especially if it has nothing to do with the topic.
