  • Will the FOMC Halt the Dollar's Advance?

    The US dollar gained against all the major currencies over the past week. It also rose against many emerging market currencies. A notable exception was the Chinese yuan. The yuan rose before the weekend, extended its advancing streak to four consecutive sessions, and in so doing, it snapped a six-week slide. Last week's advance was only the second week since the start of May that the yuan moved higher. The optimists claim the firmer yuan, and official comments suggesting capital outflows have eased, show that China does not seek a continued depreciation of the yuan. US economy and markets are doing just fine after the brexit vote knee jerk reaction. US unemployment is as low as it is likely to ever go. Brexit should have (has had) little or no impact on US economy. Neither Clinton nor Trump support US dependence on international trade. Accordingly, the Fed should hike the interest rate by 0.25% this month.

But we all know better, we all know Janet. Stanley is only there as a respected academic. the best but funniest comment on a rate hike was by a forex site that the market was not prepared for such an event. jizz janet, how much did you have to prepare the market for the last rate hike?

so how to trade FOMC? my finger will be on short S&P, but there is very little likelihood of me hitting the button.

short S&P a heavy sumbitch to get off the ground. But the chance of a big move down on a hawkish tone out of the FOMC is worth some defined risk.

I wouldn't risk much, though. Whatever the Yellen Fed takes away, the other CB's will give back, probly x2+....
