If so;impeccable timing.
If what he says is even half true,,,then I respect him for his stand. Pity the rest of his goverment can't understand economics. Regardless, the government and people of Greece have been holding out the hat to the Euro Group for too long and not fixing their own problems. Its like us individuals going the bank everytime to borrow money while we continue to splurge or live beyond our means. Can't blame Euro Group o demand collateral as a bank would demand from you. So Greek's best alternative is go bankrupt, Grexit and do their own reforms...painful, but its their only option other than being enslaved for a long time. No different from personal bankruptcies...ha ha other than Donald Trump...

I hope for Greece's sake..they reject the latest deal and save thier own face and country..because.. the lenders will keep on tightening the screws until they get their money and leave Greece penniless...any thoughts...????
I am expecting a Grexit..contrary to the current thinking..and in the end it will good for Greece and for EUR.. with 23% VAT no tourists are going to go there unless there is massive devaluation of their own currency..which will be the case...

Haha! Didn't see another Greece bailout coming (sarcasm)! The Euro is going to continue to kick the can until it all falls apart many years from now. We'll be hearing Greece headlines in a few years when they request their 4th bailout. And yes, they'll get another bailout. The Euro is doomed and the leaders know this. They're going to hold on to and kerp abusing their power til it's the next politician's turn to take the reigns and so on. Haha! Greece gets another bailout! Socialism is great until you run out of other peoples money...

Well the Greek Government signed a deal in 2012.. and then reneged on it.
They say the want to stay in the EZ, but have consistently refused to respect the rules of the EZ.
They criticize, abuse and lecture EVERYONE, IMF, EG, ECB, involved in trying to save them from the unbelievable mess their arraogance corruption, etc etc.. but not a word about the lying, fraudulent mismanagement, and the endemic socioeconomic dysfunctionality of their own political class and that permeates their own society to to bottom.

the more i read about this situation, the more i get the feeling that Greece's faith has been decided long ago and things will unfold at the right moment. it's going to be bad and it is meant to be the perfect example for the rest of the world - obey or else.

I agreed with Scrat , the verdict has been passed sometimes ago, the euro zone committee needed these past weeks to (Justify) their decision to the world, this is to allow themselves a free conscious mind and nobody will be blamed but Greece themselves .
Let me question a logical question[ Greece isn't the first time requesting for help, 3 years ago , ECB along the wayyyy have conducted quantification of each EZ members especially the PIIGS, with all the talents in the ECB , why they didn't flag it out and contain the debt issues of Greece allowing it to drag on ?
My humble view m ECB requires a CI champion ( Continuous Improvement ), 6 Sigma standard.

For sure..

EVERY organisation, business relationship, institution and every family has rules Every member has rights and with them go responsibilities... to those rules. And if they dont like them, or they constantly break them then they leave... or in extremis are thrown out.
Democracy is BASED on rules.
Greece has broken just about every rule in the book in the last 15 years.
Why should they be treated like they are some sort of exception.
So yes.. Obey or else. The rule of Law. It is the basis on which all civilised human society is based.
Why are commentators here implying that such an idea is somehow unfair, unusual or to be sneered at?

The current crisis in Greece is a DIRECT RESULT of the Syriza governments overthrowing and non compliance with the 2012 bailout terms. Which ment an end to that.
As a democratically elected government they had that right.
But with rights come responsibilities. And with action, come consequences.
Unfortunately the forgot to advise their citizens of the latter.
And thats why were now talking about a 3rd bailout. and why the country is on its knees, because the other 330 million citizens of the EZ are getting mightaly tired of having to not only risk THEIR savings, pensions and families financial futures, to pick up this situation AGAIN.
And on top to listen to being abused, criticised, and made the villians of a screw-up caused by the Greeks themselves.

yes, democracy is about responsibilities and rules, and this goes for ALL parties involved.
perhaps i should clarify a bit further my previous comment: decision time to improve things for Greece was a couple of years ago, not now; right now, the situation is desperate and everybody knows that. Greek government should either pledge for some forgiveness of debt, or try to negotiate with its european partners a way to contain the disaster that is about to come for the people in the event of a default or an exit from eurozone. ust pull the plug, and take it from there. i mean, come on, what is this... greeks kept sending the wrong letters... germans playing good cop bad cop routine with greeks... then a referendum... WHAT THE HECK IS THIS MUMBO JUMBO??? if greeks want out of eurozone, let them out. pull the plug, or restructure / forgive the debt, it's been done before with germany, poland and so on. and then take it from there.
but to my surprise, although everybody knows this would be the best way of dealing with the crisis, european partners seem to behave like they want Greece to suffer and they are just pouring salt on an open wound.

i think you are mistaken. i'm only going to say this: the current situation is NOT the direct result of syriza's actions, but the consequence of a complex mixture involving both former greek governments AND lenders. yes, greek lifestyle may be the main ingredient to this situation, but there's always two sides of the story, and more importantly right now is not the time to point fingers but act promptly and then make sure to never allow such situations to happen again.
