How Traders at Goldman Sachs Get a Head Start
When it comes to capital markets, Goldman Sachs GS -1.10% has a unique advantage: its trading operations are viewed as supporting its credit rating. When Moody’s released results last week of its review of a baker’s dozen of global investment bank ratings, it noted the ratings of several banks were negatively affected by their capital-markets operations. Bank of America BAC -1.02%’s strengths, for example, were “partly countered” by the size and funding requirements of its capital-markets business.
