  • If The Troika Says "Nein" Tomorrow, Here's What The "New Drachma" Will Look Like

    From zerohedge.com

While Greek officials remain 'confident' of their ability to deliver a reform package that the Troika-esque "institutions" will accept tomorrow (notably a bank holiday in Greece), it appears the Germans are not so sure. Hans Michelbach, a finance expert of the Christian Social Union, told the Handelsblatt newspaper it is "inconceivable that the German parliament can make a final decision on the bridge program for Greece before the end of February." Having already seemed to capitulate on the promises made to the electorate, and now beginning to crack down on tax evasion, we wonder how long it will be before the ... (full story)

What are the chances that the Greek's list will satisfy the "Institutions" and the Germans in particular? Almost Zero no? Merkels party has lost considerable ground in recent elections. Further disappointing its electorate is definitely nothing she can risk. And most CDU/CSU voters are fed up with the Greek!

they will probably agree to a draft letter that was: meant for publication with the last government; that had been edited to bring it up to date; that was then leaked incorrectly on twitter; that had actually been the right one all along; that then got mistaken for the correct agreement but then got translated wrongly before some clever clogs starts to make reference to some chap delivering the correct agreement by hand from Marathon.....and so on for the next four months

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

"Well... we all have to make sacrifices".

If Greece really can catch another break, who wants to bet that France and Spain won't hold out from more relief in some form or another. I am still amazed at how far the European peoples are willing to go to have a single currency. No trade barriers, and a single all inclusive passport? Sure. They help. A single currency for 17 or 18 widely varied countries? What a plan.. Put me the in skeptical camp.
