  • Bye bye MetaTrader 4! MONEX Group formally announces phase-out

    From leaprate.com

As of November 7, 2014, MONEX Group’s Japanese client base will stand down from MetaTrader 4, replicating a company-wide initiative to concentrate on proprietary platforms following subsidiary IBFX’s sale of its MetaTrader 4 client base to FXCM for $4.4 million For Japanese FX giant MONEX Group, the provision of the vastly popular and market share dominant MetaTrader 4 platform lasted just over a year, having been introduced in August 2013, and is now being consigned to the history books. Subsequent to a previous announcement that MONEX Group was preparing to move away from MetaTrader 4 and concentrate on the ... (full story)

Heh, the constant updates and bugfixes had their results, their backfired on the MT4. Looks like no professional traders want to trade with an unstable platform.

I like MT4, because it has auto trading(EA) feature.

Every trading platform has that (trading strategies, or whatever you call them) - metatrader EAs are among the worse - especially now with new metatrader 4

I respectfully disagree. I am using mt4 for last 6 years to develop my own ea's and I would not go with any other platform. The day I can't use mt4, I have to quit trading forex. MT4 is simply awesome and beautiful and which software system has no minor problems. Even mighty Microsoft have to keep updating windows after so many years.

As imperfect as MT4 is, Im one that couldnt trade without it. If more and more brokers ditch it, whatever the popular replacement will be, it would need to make a lot of indi code and other things directly transferrable/compatible.
As easy as it is to find fault with MT4 (and its very easy), very few alternatives exist - especially in terms of number of compatible indicators available out there for free.

Hopefully the MT4 devs will see this as a 'warning' and just focus on bug fixes in future and not silly feature additions.

Does that mean that the brokers won't use MT4 anymore? Do we have to migrate to something else??
Sorry I'm a little bit lost on the news

Thank you

Monex is just posturing to screw it's clients in ways not permitted thru the use of MT4. You see, if all brokers use MT4 then one cannot say it is "better" then another. But, brokers that tout their own "proprietary" platform can say that they are "better" - though lying because they still aren't - and thereby sucker in clients for the shearing. It is all about marketing, which means it is all about MONEX making more money, which means traders looking for a broker should beware.....

FXCM, now the largest forex broker in the USA, is thriving on their MT4 clients. And, lets face it, a book of business that cost FCXM 4.4 million to get, a book that MT4 created for MONEX in just over a year, is testimony to the popularity of MT4.

I seriously doubt we will see a rash of brokers forfeit their MT4 business by eliminating the platform, and forfeit it they will if they try to because it is a good platform. Nothing grows from infancy to maturity without mishaps, not even people. People that bitch about past problems with MT4 as MetaQuotes continued its development are simply immature people, quick to point out the problems with other people, things and ideas while conveniently overlooking their own faults.

It appears to me that the article's title is misleading.

MT4 is owned by Metaqoutes and it isn't going away.

Its the words "client base": "MONEX Group’s Japanese client base will stand down from MetaTrader 4"

Maybe the title should have read
"MONEX Group Soon Will No Longer suppor MT4"

Ok I also like the features that MT4 has, but let's not forget about the flaws also. For the many good features that it has that other platforms don't, it has also many flaws.

Windows is not managing my money, while MT4 does, so there is the big difference.

In middle school physics , I learnt " Change is the only constant in the Universe".
In real life this is very true. We have to keep changing/upgrading.
Started off computer education with DOS OS , then Unix , Windows 95 , Windows , 98 , Windows Millennium , Windows XP , Windows Vista , Windows 7,etc (I haven't used Windows 8 on my system).
We have to keep going up even if we don't like it.
The most significant drawback of most human beings is adaptability to accept change easily. We get emotionally attached or used to certain things that we don't want to change.

MT4. Shouldn't we look at other platforms? Don't answer with "i'm okay with mt4" or "mt4" is the best if you haven't tried other platforms which can actually save you thousands of dollars for features like VPS to host your EAs or to close all of your positions, etc..

Ninja Trader and vertex fx is much better and third goes cTrader

Simple common sense : what is good for the trader is bad for the broker and vice versa.
