It's funny how I hear people say that volume is not important. If not we should just say Dow increased 2 % today and the volume was 0 aka manipulation

May be the winding of QE is contributing to the low volume experienced these days.

Why is volume tumbling? Easy answer: "The Thieves of Wall Street."

The stock market is still largely "self-regulated" and is still a den of thieves. Since the price controlling "syndicates" of the late eighteen hundreds to the price controlling huge Robber Bank/Investment houses today, little has changed.

Counterfeit shares can still be sold to force prices lower (Naked Shorting), and the vast sums of liquidity enjoyed by "The Thieves of Wall Street" enable them to more easily than ever control stock prices simply by overwhelming everyone else when they want to "take the pot."

A lot of the shenanigans of this crooked market have come more into the light since the greedy price controllers crashed the global economy,...including how powerful they are as an elite group. Witness their bailout by the ex-CEO of GS, while everyone else went to ruin!

You can fool some of the people all the time, and all the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all the people all of the time. And now, after much pain and suffering by the majority of folks around the world, caused solely by these bailed out greedy elite, it is no wonder the volume is down.

For years I have proclaimed the stock market is crooked, and evil. And that people not wanting to be the same way should have nothing to do with it! Sell all stocks and close all brokerage accounts and walk away. Leave these son-of-bitches to screwing each other!

Only if folks do this, will there be any chance of these crooks cleaning up their back yard. They have pissed and crapped so much there, it stinks. Good folks can smell the stink! And fewer people want to play there anymore. Join them. Maybe then, even if still out of greed and tiring of just getting to screw each other, these thieves will clean up their dirty rotten crooked market in an attempt to attract honest folks back in.

What if I said to you that HFT has actually done the market a favour by smoothing out the "unknowns" in the market, it moderates it, as soon as a slight price variation occurs by frontrunning, naked shorts, ghosting etc..et al then the price variation cannot stand out for long ( Like a trillionth of a second ) before the next algobot in the feed sequence recognises the slight variation and climbs into the trade.
Yes, because of this trades are getting thinner and thinner , price often moving more on rhetoric, ECBs and leader statements not based on fundamentals anymore.

I'm not into math but is this a fair assessment ?

That could be a help, but this 'money printing' epidemic that's sweeping the central/reserve banks has to stop before the true 'Free Floating Currency model' returns. Low volatility in Forex is my concern now. My trend following system requires 30 day ADR over 120. I have been chased to EJ to EA and now to spot Gold. I trade only Gold at the moment. I want Forex volatility comes back as soon as possible....

Big investment banks being restricted from speculative trading? Forex was introduced to me about 15-20 years ago by saying, "This is what all the banks are doing with your money." Can any market survive without speculative trading by big boys? In my opinion it's going to get much worse, because if I understood right, the Volcker Rule isn't even active yet.

perhaps its about time market to turn around. market always move with those selected few, and the rest with join after its already gone too far to be profitable. thats one of theories i have heard.

Dude, take off the tin foil hat. Countless people owe their entire wealth to the financial markets. Of course the insiders have certain advantages - but we also have advantages on the retail side as well.

Physical Volume is dropping because it is being replaced by synthetic markets (Futures, Options, CFDs).

In regard to people concerned with reduction in ADR in Forex majors: If your strategy is based around large daily moves - why are you trading an instrument where both sides have a vested interest to keep markets quiet?

Do you think the Fed and ECB want volatility in the EURUSD? Of course not - so it wont be volatile. Find something else to trade.
