  • Draghi signals and ECB rate cut, Euro rallies – go figure!

    From vantagefx.com

Last night was a very big night for me. I thought that the macro-drivers reinforced my view that the Euro is still heading substantially lower but when I sat down this morning the Euro is higher. Structurally my sense is that the results of the European Parliamentary elections reinforce the ECB has to do something next week and further down the track if the economy and crucially inflation doesn’t recover. The key here is that besides Angela Merkel in Germany and Renzi in Italy the mainstream parties across the EU performed poorly while those on the left in Spain and Greece and those on the right in Britain and ... Greg McKenna here for Vantage - It is always a question of time frames and I am talking about the short term rally off Friday's lows but more importantly the fact that after the signal from Draghi was so emphatic on QE that the EUR rose.

As for Draghi's comments he spoke on Sunday and here is the link if you'd like to have a squizz.

Cheers

The EU zones "future" is dictated by Germany....and Draghi can talk all he likes.

-neg interest rates is about the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard in the entire history of my trading Forex.

Draghi will DO NOTHING...and CAN DO NOTHING.

June will pass with "zero action" out of the ECB - yet again.

I agree, Draghi is just a simple mouthpiece .... it's Germany that's really in charge.... Draghi is just another employee on Germany's payroll.... Very true, the only power he has as an ECB President is DO NOTHING..... just yak yak yak.....

Much appreciated!
I think the market has been pricing a lot of his QE talk in, I guess. Where was he all the months when it had the talks of bearish comments yet still kept rising. I think timing in FX is something you can never really do with accuracy

Expectation versus reality. The more a market prices in one scenario, and it does not happen, the greater the response. Unless there is some type of scorched Earth, massive cut and we, it will be a let down.
