Within Friday’s 13F filings news was the revelation that the firm, founded by legendary investor George Soros, increased a put position on the S&P 500 ETF by a whopping 154% in the fourth quarter, compared with the third. (A put or short position basically gives the owner the right to sell a security at a set price for a limited time, and in making such a bet, an investor generally believes the security is going to decline.) US economy recovers but I think US company stocks are overvalued, I don't think SP or DJ reflects real economic turmoil in the country. Is Soros' position long term? I don't know, but this guy appears to be right as usual.

the aj seems to indicate the same thing as Sorro's betting on. the aj is a good economic indicator since is has commodities and equity's in this pair. atm its in a bounce that may be part on a norm dead cat bounce up to the normally indicated 93.35/6 area with slippage allowed up to 95.67... before 95.68 we usually go to the 86.4x ties.. it dont have to make it back to 93.35 but most times it will minimum. some where between 93.35 and 95.67 i expect a dive to a minimum 86.42

it is a hedge for his bullish positions. If he has more than doubled his hedge of his bullish equity positions, what do you think he has done with those positions?

More than doubled them
He may have longed the US$ on the basis that tapering will either pump the markets (economy is fixed) or not (protective hedge in place).

...of course he could simply be playing the collapse-or-flat possibility.

he would only bet $1.3b if he was going to make $3.9 B on another trade.

I bet his is long on plenty of markets. His exit loss is 1.3 b on those long positions.

He is definately hedging or protecting profits on some good longs

Usually than not he is right. What does he actually see in the market? Maybe something like Black Friday. Don't know about it this time.
The big shock is almost coming in the market. Market sp500 will melt more than 500 points down. he still will rise ja we are currently 1893.4
