  • Bitcoin bug causes massive sell-off

    From finextra.com

A bug in the bitcoin software that makes it possible to alter transaction details over the network has caused panic-selling among holders of the crypto-currency, sending prices crashing below the $600 mark on Monday morning. Japan-based bitcoin exchange MT Gox last week suspended bitcoin transactions while it investigated technical problems that had emerged during an increase in withdrawal requests. In an update today, the exchange says a bug in the bitcoin software makes it possible for someone to use the network to alter transaction details to make it seem like a sending of coins to a wallet did not occur when in ... All going as intended. Bitcoin serves its role as a puppet very well. If you were blinded by the hype, while not being prepared for news like this to come out {and Gox} you should be ashamed and learn from your mistakes. If you are able to play among the Puppeteers, goodjob.

Indeed, safe heaven suggests longer term positions. Bitcoin is too fragile to call it that / easily skyrocketed or stomped into the ground if parties want it. A goodjob was done to trigger the hype, up the price, to then afterwards generate REAL profit on the collapse, falling into the hands of a few big dogs while the herd majority is following each other blindfolded. Where have we seen this before?

Stick to certain commodities instead as your proven safe heaven.

After you buy any btc from the creators for dollars there is nothing that requires them to buy them back. Glitch, crash, whatever. You are at the mercy of finding other suckers.

It is possible for someone to use the network to alter transaction details to make it seem like a sending of coins to a wallet did not occur when in fact it did occur.

From last-year's year high of $1203 to $539 per coin in early morning trading.

I actually know of a really small investor who's lost over 70% of his punt on bitcoins. No matter how I stressed the time honoured phase of "never invest in something you don't completely understand" both he and his wife just wouldn't listen. Haven't seen them for weeks thinking about it..

All trading is a bet but many folk can't separate investments from punts which is why many naive investors have been caught out.

Hi every one,

I know you remember that little fact from forth century’s ago? Still think twice and rethink.

In 1593 tulips were brought from Turkey and introduced to the Dutch. The novelty of the new flower made it widely sought after and therefore fairly pricey. After a time, the tulips contracted a non-fatal virus known as mosaic, which didn't kill the tulip population but altered them causing "flames" of color to appear upon the petals. The color patterns came in a wide variety, increasing the rarity of an already unique flower. Thus, tulips, which were already selling at a premium, began to rise in price according to how their virus alterations were valued, or desired. Everyone began to deal in bulbs, essentially speculating on the tulip market, which was believed to have no limits.

Where? Holland

We can tell you that at the peak of the market, a person could trade a single tulip for an entire estate, and, at the bottom, one tulip was the price of a common onion.
Excessive greed causes people to feel financially invincible and make decisions that cause financial devastation. This process occurs regardless of if the market is a commodity market or virtual currency?

The damned thing is not going up to infinity in a straight line, so it can't be a real currency, right?

The volatility can be a bit unsettling, but this is not unusual considering the lack of liquidity. Just because something is not ready for prime time yet doesn't mean it will never be. The people who don't understand it are always the first to knock it.

''... oh and there is only a certain amount of bitcoin that could be release which is by the way why you should buy it, unlike the FED's paper... its perfect for inflation and one day it will be the world currency !!''

There are more and more scam around the internet, but this one deserves an award. I pitty those who even thought of buying this crap. But in a sens, its not their fault that they are stupid, the ads, lets not forget that Bloomberg participated in it, were quite convincing .

Say that to the morons that choose bitcoin 3 years ago.
Although i'm pretty sure they are richer than you though. Just because you don't understand the fundamentals behind a product doesn't mean it is a bad investment. Everybody cannot know everything about all investments opportunity out there, but ignorance shouldn't be the basis of your opinion.

You people are all clueless about bitcoin.. one day soon you will not be able to afford 1 bitcoin working your whole life.

The gox thing was a setup to drive price down to balance a 40k btc debt. They are in the last phase of simply buying 40k bitcoin less than they sold it for.

Fyi fiat money is dead.. evolve or perish little pawns. Dont let the market makers brainwash you otherwise

Bitcoiners are like conspiracy theorists. You can't have a mature and rational discussion with them. They will always go on and on about a power of bitcoin no matter how little evidence they have to go on. Ignoring them is the best thing to do.

If I have gold then the price of gold suddenly down, I don't worry about it, because I still have gold, I can use gold as jewelery etc.
If I have money, it no problemo..although fiat money printed by government, It means those money never die as long as the gov who create those money still exist.
How about bitcoin? If I have bitcoin, then suddenly the price of bitcoin down.
What should I do with my bitcoin? Can I change my bitcoin to be something usefull?
Nothing!!!!! Bitcoin only fake stuff like they said cryptograph bla..bla..bla.. no function of it, no back up from gov or institusion..just someone who create it and make him rich when you buy his bitcoin with your money it means you gave your money to the creator of bitcoin and of course he need money for buying stuff and he sucess to making a monkey out of you....
they stole your money with buying fake stuff like bitcoin...open your mind!
