Yes, if I wasn't so committed to swing trading there's only one other sure fire way (I'd use) of taking money out of this market whilst satisfying your backers that you've cut risk down to an absolute minimum.

Very good article for a change. My Dad used to tell me...'son, always look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves. How right he was.

Also, this article raises a great point about chipping away at creating a decent account. Big winners are a nice bonus, but they are just that....a bonus, they are not the bread and butter of trading. As they say, you don't have to score all the runs of the season in a single innings!!

I completely disagree that only so called professional traders are successful in long term (I personally know 2) and that so called hobbyists traders stand no chance. That is yet another bullshit you hear from so called professionals - like there is something mystical and unreachable for other humans. I've seen this attitude with colleagues in my field - engineers that present the PID control paradigm as it is the Big Hadron Collider.

Remark: I'm a pretty successful hobbyist trader.

But the biggest Reason........they have no idea what they are doing!!

1. They trade based on free online education
2. Most are looking for fast Microwave start up kits to learn to trade
3. Many don't realize that this is a business and not a quick rich scheme.
4. They don't want to spend money to make money, key in any business!

To grow into a successful trader you need to do:

1. Find a trading methodology that actually works in a live environment and is not based just off back test results. Very important, make sure that you have live trading support from the company that teaches you the methodology! If they don't live trade the methodology themselves, then question the success of the methodology.

Then apply the 3 pre-trade rules:
Paper Trade (practice the methodology)
Demo Trade (know the trading software)
Live Trade (small at 1st as you are going to blow your account at least once)

2. Join the live trade support that follows the methodology everyday and does not sway outside those rules, because you will, therefore you need a solid foundation to keep you on track!

3. Patience; Perseverance and Consistency will grant you the key to success!

STAY AWAY FROM:

1. Online Marketing get rich Trade Systems
2. Buying education off websites with no direct contact with the author
3. Internet marketers selling someone else education
4. Mentors that claim to know all with less experience than you!

One good reason is political jingoism and this is mostly to do with stateside currency traders who unfortunately make up a hell of a lot of the population of traders (I am told by usually reliable sources) thereby creating the statistical impression. True or false - anyone? Nice One!

You missed off the biggest reason the majority fail, no money at the outset.

If you're not well capitalised, or as part of your business/trading plan have not figured out where your fifty grand to make the average yearly wage is coming from after a brief but successful apprenticeship, you're wasting your time, unless of course you're just in it for shits and giggles, in which case knock yourself out

Only 65% failure rate? Suppose it depends on how you define success. Whilst 35% of bets may win close on 99% never make a successful career from trading, and that's what most are in it for, not as a bit of fun.
