  • FF Blog: Sorry for the downtime!

    From forexfactory.com

If you tried to access the site in the past 24 hours you probably experienced broken applications and intermittent downtime. We're extremely sorry for the problems! Reliability is one of the primary objectives at Forex Factory, and we fell way short here. As for the cause, we were upgrading a load balancer and it set off an unbelievable string of problems for our internal network. The root cause was so obscure that it took our development team, along with several Rackspace engineers, working 20 hours straight to identify. It ended up being the longest non-hacker-related downtime we've experienced in over seven years. ... (full story)

I'm just thankful you you appear to have fixed the frighteningly large, oblong blue mostly empty structure over the newest message on any thread..... by removing it! FF went down shortly after I couldn't resist posting 4 notes to the Contact Us area hoping to reach someone about this... I couldn't have been the only one writing... I wrote that I would switch to babypips.com, reluctantly, if the blue rectangle had for some unfathomable reason to remain.

It was truly awful - but now... at least so far (I haven't gone to any threads except this one).... it seems GONE.

I bet that square is the obscure issue you mention... it seems, at least ot me, on the face of it to be totally unconnected to a load balancer issue.

Hey, no problem Scot. I know from experience how frustrating and stressful these technical problems can be. It's nice of you to apologise for what is essentially a free service (and a great one at that). Thanks!

Just went into a thread, and, after a few clicks to scroll the page down, the rectangle popped up. It's still there. It covers about 1/3 of the most recent post on any thread.

Initially, when you click on a thread, it is as normal; once you start to scroll, the rectangle pops up.

All it has is past pages listed vertically, and a lot of empty space.

I have now rediscovered alternative news outlets - amazing the good that can come out of someone else's mishaps.

Maybe FF will consider upgrading on weekends (when the markets have closed) in the future?

Traders DO need reliability ... and back-up ... I have learned from this not to depend on anyone for essential info.

Having said that ... it's good that the problem has been identified and fixed. Appreciate that this is freely available, and wish you well in future upgrades ... just let us know in future when you are tinkering with the unbroken model

You don't know how I felt during the downtime. I just felt like one of my arms broke. But it happens how big you are. So I wasn't fed up, annoyed, irritated or anything like that. But disappointed.

Be proud that you have many fans. Such incidents will prove it again.

Scot,
Thanks for explaining (not that I would understand all that)
But I'm grateful your back up and running.

It's a fantastic site and just the fact people missed it so
much is a credit to you.

Thanks again Scot for a fantastic site - I'm sure people don't say it enough - even though we all think it.

Delta

Guys, whats the deal with trade explorer? It just wont connect with my investor pass since last Friday. This same password I have used on other sites and it works fine, but not on FF. I have submitted help tickets but no one has answered. Is this an issue with the broker?
