This what you call "letting the cat out of the bag". Of course it's a model for other cases: tax payers in Germany have no appetite for further bank bailouts in the periphery. Happily Ireland looks like it's close to beginning to repay its bailout (made necessary by the government saving the banks). That will change the mood a bit, when there is an example of bailout money not disappearing forever.
