  • U.S. should replace dollar bills with coins, GAO says

    The U.S. should replace dollar bills with dollar coins, a watchdog said, a move that could be unpopular with the public but ultimately save the government money. “We continue to believe that the government would receive a financial benefit from making the replacement,” Lorelei St. James, a director at the nonpartisan Government Accountability Office, said in remarks prepared for a Congressional hearing scheduled for Thursday. Of all the idiotic ideas. They already do this in Europe, and England, where it costs "a ton" to buy a *%! sandwich. It's inflationary, but only for the little man. The "few" don't have to carry the smelly junk around with them - Sometimes it's so bad you think it will eat through your pocket. Definitely an elitist ploy - and of course it has the added advantage of costing more to mint the coins. Perfect!

Yes, but they have devalued the usd to the point that a one dollar gold coin would be so small that you wouldn't be able to see it (smirk). And, the last time I checked, a silver dollar cost $30.60.

Surely the Canadian initiative of making notes plastic is more sustainable I'm with the suggestion up top that it smacks of conflicted interest and perhaps psyche issues in relation to perception values
