Looks whats happening in Spain and still politics is ignoring the growing social unrest, its just beginning in Spain and it will be much worse during this year if politicians keep closing their eyes. Europe will fail if they continue on the same path.
Guess you're right about that. The problem is much bigger 'though. Same thing has happened in the US with Occupy Wall Street. People are getting nervous everywhere. Time for some real economic intervention. I hope to see some stimulating decisions by the EU during the second half of 2012.
There has been various unofficial public polls in Britain regarding EU membership. Unfortunately the majority of Brits are anti EU solely because of immigration, many do not understand the trade benefits. For the working class majority EU migration has driven down wages and increased unemployment in Britain.

With this in mind any public poll issued is always going to come back anti EU.

I would imagine the sentiment is similar in other Western European countries.

Same old story, different times. What we see today, is the same confrontation we've had in Europe for ages. The eternal oposition between France and Germany, a stubborn and cocky UK meddling with everything but refusing to participate nevertheless, a completely chaotic and disorganised Southern Europe and a vast but undefined area in the East both threatening and creating opportunities. And yet it has been working for a while now.

The EU is a noble project in it's origin but it needs to speed up a little.

Economic intervention is the problem not the answer. It only prolongs and excabates the situation.
Non-intervention is not an answer either. The system works best within a certain set of rules. Without governments participating in the economic life, we'd all be living in the Wild West.

Stirling, thats a pretty strong statement to make, and rather inaccurate. Id be careful about the sort of language you use.
