    From federalreserve.gov

A staff presentation provided an overview of an exercise that explored individual participants' views on appropriate monetary policy responses under alternative economic scenarios. Committee participants discussed the potential value and drawbacks of this type of exercise for both internal deliberations and external communications about monetary policy. Possible benefits include helping to clarify the factors that individual participants judge most important in forming their views about the economic outlook and their assessments of appropriate monetary policy. "Growth was expected to be moderate over coming quarters and then to pick up over time. Members expected the unemployment rate to decline gradually. Strains in global financial markets stemming from the sovereign debt and banking situation in Europe continued to pose significant downside risks to economic activity both here and abroad."

The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) on Wednesday announced a revised tentative meeting schedule for 2012 and a tentative meeting schedule for 2013. In order to provide ample time for the Committee's usual discussions, these meetings have been scheduled to take place over two days. In addition, the FOMC announced that, going forward, the presentation of the Summary of Economic Projections and the Chairman's press conference will occur in conjunction with the meetings scheduled for the third month of each quarter (March, June, September, and December).

The US is doing fine. If theres anything bad about them is the fact that are affected by Europe. Since the problem is Europe and not the US, on long-term, unless Greece solve their problem, which is VERY UNLIKELY, The USD should strengthen
Alternatives are more important than the plan itself

Another knee-jerk reaction from a lot of money that read between the lines while ignoring what was actually written on the page. I'm glad I waited to see if the rally had any legs else I would have abandoned my positions only to have to re-enter them at a loss.

(Yes, if it were real I'd have taken a loss for holding my positions, but you can always make up any losses in a genuine rally whereas the opposite is not true when the rally turns out to be false.)
You can always make money tomorrow provided you don't lose it today.

u waited for 27 so u might as well reload and wait for it to recover!! why would you take a 10$ loss?? u waited so long keep the positions fund the account and just wait... My guess gold has already bottomed and is going to turn up with silver by friday its more oversold than last september low so a short covering rally and turnaround has to be near , very near! don't u agree with me guys? anyone cares to share his views??

When you trade the euro against the dollar you trade crap against crap.

Abuseden took the words right out of my mouth ...er, fingers.

However, just because that's what we expect doesn't mean it will happen. The banks have been manipulating the markets to push USD up and gold down as far as possible before they make the swap to cover their overextensions, so be safe and wait for verification, because you'll always get another chance to make money, but once it's gone you can never get it back.
You can always make money tomorrow provided you don't lose it today.

Gold-wise, at the current rate of decline, gold will hit $1520 tomorrow, and if that doesn't hold, the next target, $1480, could be hit as soon as Monday. With the G8 meeting this weekend, late Friday would be ideal timing for the banks to make their move without giving the markets time to overreact.

Again, what I think and what will really happen aren't necessarily one-in-the-same, just an educated guess.
You can always make money tomorrow provided you don't lose it today.

Kasqade,

Based on what I've read (but always with a healthy dose of scepticism, and this is by no means the definitive truth), the banks (private and government) have not only been selling the gold they own without replacing it (which they aren't supposed to), they've been naked short-selling gold (which they really aren't supposed to do) to drive the price of gold down so they can buy gold back at a profit.

Also, banks have been incurring losses through risky behaviour that hasn't paid off (which is also not entirely legal), currency devaluation from QE1 & QE2, and the Eurocrisis, etc., and the ideal solution is to create panic in the markets (via co-ordinated, sector-wide, buying and selling, to cause the "flight-to-safety") which drives up value of the USD while continuing to short gold to push it down as low as they can before buying it back.

As soon as they make their big, co-ordinated gold purchase (which is collusion and illegal), gold will skyrocket while USD simultaneously falls, making the value of gold and all non-US currencies they hold even more valuable relative to USD.

Then they can buy back USD at a discount to where they sold it for gold, making profit on both ends of the trade.

For extra price manipulation fun, announcing QE3 at this time would push the price of gold even higher, further increasing the value of bullion stockpiles owned by the banks.

...or perhaps it's all just a coincidence.

Regardless of who is doing it and why, the important thing is to be prepared to buy gold and sell USD when the trigger is finally pulled. It might be tomorrow or it might be months away (I'm betting sooner rather than later), but rest assured, it will happen.
You can always make money tomorrow provided you don't lose it today.

Silver has virtually no support below $26(ish) until it hits $18(ish), but an Eliot wave chartist might be able to produce some target levels.

The problem for pricing silver is it's as much of a commodity as it is a currency, so it can keep going down until the supply runs out. Having said that, the global silver supply is far less than gold so it shouldn't have been falling as fast as it has in the first place, if at all.

Clearly something else is at play, and a cynical person might say it's being pushed artificially low until after gold goes up in order to maximize the gold to silver swap ratio.
You can always make money tomorrow provided you don't lose it today.

Stocks lost much of their steam as the U.S. dollar gained strength, with the currency lately favored as a haven at the expense of other assets, including gold
Gold at 10-month low, holds to $1,500 an ounce. News ECB might cut off Greek banks sends gold, other metals lower Gold falls for a fourth day Wednesday as concerns about Greece’s finances drain investors’ appetites for risk and help push the U.S. dollar higher.

Re: Silver

Twice in 2011 the silver has touched down till 26.13

Am guessing it will fall till it touched 26.13. I can be wrong and it can fall further.

if you are looking for historic reference, look at the early 80's for golds ability to decline in value. 65%. Since 2001, gold has increased 750% and looks exponential on a monthly chart. Just like it did in 1980. After the 80's crash...and it was a crash, it took 26 years to reach its former high. A 65% decline from its recent highs would take it too 675 or so. Most of the gold value now is paper value, not metal value. Do not think for one minute that gold cannot decline very quickly in value. It can, it has and it still can. An all data look at a monthly chart is a necessity for anyone long gold or considering a long in gold.

I like comparing gold to the nasdaq early 90's chart. Pretty similar and if you are long gold, you don't want that to happen. I remember people in the 90's talking about the nasdaq as some do about gold now. The metal has value, all of the paper floating around does NOT. Good luck in your trades.

Not so quick siewhf.

Look for EU to bounce. The spike down at 1100 EST demonstrated that EU will NOT breach 1.2700 in the near term.

Long EU now at 1.2750 looking for a ride up to 1.2900-1.3000

Remember sell the rumor buy the facts.

Why? Please tell me why?

Gold is TRADITIONALLY bought as a hedge against inflation or in times of panic.

1. There is no inflation, unless you are in the Chinese real estate market

2. The world is not about to 'panic'; Greece will eventually leave the EU and it's already been priced into the market.
...because you never know - until you do!

{quote} What on God's green Earth makes you think that with Greece on the verge of default, with Germany out 266 Billion euro's and the socialits in France saying no to austerity makes you believe that the Euro even deserves to be at 1.2700?

Hmmm, i cant remember who said that just one day ago. Can anyone help me out? My how quickly we can change our minds.

Hi everybody, Eur and Gold weakened in response to Hollande inauguration, and $ went high. But USD can not accept very high dollar because its exports will diminish, this is why I think 1500 is a very solid support.

Jim Rogers has been quite quiet lately, think he might have lost quite abit of money from his exposures to gold, commodities, and the Chinese market. triple whammy....

my personal view is that the bull in gold might have run out of steam, i will not be surprised if it hit below 1500 soon.
