Great way to wipe 50% market cap off US companies and drive the USD into the isolationist dump. All he's done is add fuel to the fire, and don't think even for a minute that he won't carry out this and other tariff threats in full. He is blind to US shortcomings. And when it all goes belly up, Trump will blame everyone else but himself. That is just the narcissist in full flight.

Trumps high pressure sales tactics are well understood now. This is not like his first rodeo where world leaders were extra panicky whenever he would make outrageous threats. Now there is some pushback to some of the things he says, but still, we see presidents trying to de-escalate the situation because in some cases Trump is right in threatening countries coz he knows how to press them to do the things he needs them to do (for example Mexico with the immigration and drugs issue). However, when it comes to some things like BRICS this is very different because now, he is dealing with a conglomerate of economically powerful nations some of which have nuclear capability so I don't think his threats on BRICS will work in the long run, but they certainly will slow down the adoption speed of the BRICS currency. I mean, 100% import tariffs will massively hurt any country's business with the US and i think it is Trump doing his classic move of throwing a spanner into the tool shed to rattle the mechanics before he comes in to start negotiating his terms of engagement. Let's see how this turns out.
