The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 2.0% on a year-over-year basis in October, up from a 1.6% increase in September, as gasoline prices fell to a lesser extent in October (-4.0%) compared with September (-10.7%). The all-items CPI excluding gasoline rose 2.2% in October, the same growth rate as in August and September. Prices for goods rose 0.1% on a year-over-year basis in October, following a 1.0% decline in September. Canada's inflation rate jumps back to 2%, likely curbing large rate-cut bets
Canada's annual inflation rate accelerated more than expected to 2.0 per cent in October as gas prices fell less than the previous month, data showed on Tuesday, likely diluting chances of another large rate cut in December. Analysts polled by Reuters had forecast that the inflation rate would speed up to 1.9 per cent from 1.6 per cent in September. In August, the annual rate was 2 per cent. On a monthly basis, the consumer price index rose by 0.4 per cent after two consecutive monthly declines, Statistics Canada data showed.
