US retail sales up 0.4% in October
Seasonally adjusted advance estimates of retail and food services sales in the United States observed a monthly increase of 0.4% to stand at $718.9 billion in October, the Census Bureau said in its report published on Friday. On an annual basis, retail and food services sales rose by 2.8% from October 2024. Total sales for the period of three months ending October rose by 2.3% from the same period a year ago. On a monthly basis, retail trade sales were up 0.4% compared to the September reading and increased 2.6% year-on-year. Retail sales up solidly in October as Americans showed continued willingness to spend
U.S. retail sales rose last month at a healthy pace in the latest sign that consumer spending is driving the economy’s steady growth. Retail purchases rose 0.4% from September to October, the Commerce Department said Friday, a solid increase though less than the previous month’s robust 0.8% gain. Auto dealers, restaurants and electronics stores all reported higher sales. Last month’s rise in retail purchases suggests that the economy is growing briskly again in the current October-December quarter, after having expanded at a sturdy 2.8% annual rate in the previous quarter.
