US Economy Slowing but Not in Recession Territory as Pivotal Election Nears the 100-day Mark
The U.S. economy is likely to slow in the coming months but is not flashing recession signals as it enters the critical 100-day period to the November presidential election. The Conference Board’s leading economic index fell slightly in June, by 0.2%, following an upwardly revised 0.4% drop in May. Over the past six months, though, the index has declined by 1.9% – down from the 2.9% decrease since in the prior six months. “The US LEI continued to trend down in June, but the contraction was smaller than in the past three months,” Justyna Zabinska-La Monica, senior manager of business cycle indicators at the ...
