Job Cuts Announced by US-Based Companies Flat in May 2024; Hiring Falls to Lowest YTD Since 2014
U.S.-based employers announced 63,816 cuts in May, a 1.5% decrease from the 64,789 cuts announced one month prior. It is down 20% from the 80,089 cuts announced in the same month in 2023, according to a report released Thursday from global outplacement and business and executive coaching firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Inc. So far this year, companies have announced 385,859 job cuts, down 7.6% from 417,500 announced through May of last year.
