In May 2024, French consumer prices increased by 2.2% year on year
Over a year, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) should rise by 2.2% in May 2024, as in April, according to the provisional estimate made at the end of the month. This stagnation in inflation should be explained by a slight slowdown over a year in prices of services and tobacco, offset by a sharp acceleration in energy prices due to a base effect. Indeed, although energy prices fell between April and May 2024, they had fallen much more between April and May 2023.
