    The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) declined 0.1 percent in December on a seasonally adjusted basis, after increasing 0.1 percent in November, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Over the last 12 months, the all items index increased 6.5 percent before seasonal adjustment. The index for gasoline was by far the largest contributor to the monthly all items decrease, more than offsetting increases in shelter indexes. The food index increased 0.3 percent over the month with the food at home index rising 0.2 percent. The energy index decreased 4.5 percent over the month as the gasoline ... (full story)

  • Consumer prices fell 0.1% in December, in line with expectations from economists

    Inflation closed out 2022 in a modest retreat, with consumer prices posting their biggest monthly decline since early in the pandemic, the Labor Department reported Thursday. The consumer price index, which measures the cost of a broad basket of goods and services, fell 0.1% for the month, in line with the Dow Jones estimate. That equated to the largest month-over-month decrease since April 2020, as much of the country was in lockdown to combat Covid. Even with the decline, headline CPI rose 6.5% from a year ago, highlighting the persistent burden that rising cost of living has placed on U.S. households. However, ... (full story)

Because, finally, inflation is able to fall in line with forecasts. This takes a little pressure of Fed to be so aggressive with rate hikes...... which translates as a less desirable USD than previously thought.

Basic stuff.

Why is the FED so weak, or should POWELL take strong medicine first so the FED can neutralize prices.

Inflation came down a bit because of the small drop in energy over the holiday due to Covid lock down in China but as we speak energy prices are moving up again, so don’t hold your breath on this one. Inflation is here to stay….. damage done by the wokes !!!

Why does it seem like the unemployment rate had a muted impact on the USD, doesn't a lower than expected unemployment rate signify economic growth and hence a stronger currency?
