  • Experts call for a halt to reopening plans amid a ‘rapid escalation’ of COVID-19 case numbers in NSW and Victoria

    From businessinsider.com.au

Leading epidemiologists are urging a rethink of Australia’s current reopening plans as case numbers of the Omicron variant surge. On Sunday leading experts, including John Kaldor, and Greg Dore, epidemiologists at the Kirby Institute, and Professor Sharon Lewin, director of the Doherty Institute, published an opinion piece in the Sydney Morning Herald calling for a return to restrictions “for a few weeks” while the country gets more information on Omicron’s severity and ability to evade vaccines. Lewin, who advised on Morrison’s national plan to ease Australia into living with COVID-19, said we should pump ... (full story)

Tell those experts rather they are clowns. They sit pretty in their labs and ask government to shut down the market place. So comfortable of them.

It's just as well we are among the lowest Covid infection and death rates in the world.

Could be much worse, could be like what Europe or US are experiencing (almost 1 in 6 US citizens have contracted Covid).

The US propaganda is based on a true story, however, viewers are advised that some (published) events have been fictionalised for dramatic purposes.....

I still miss statistics showing the well being (or not) of everybody else who is locked down, families, elder people who can not see their grand kids and kids who miss out on years of socialising.

There is all too much focus on Covid and too little focus on what the current restrictions mean to the rest of society.

Just get on with life. The fit and healthy will survive and the less so can be vaccinated and some will die as in any pandemic we have seen in history. Even then germs don't discriminate; You can slow them down but, eventually, they get through.

Googled for how many deaths in Australia due to omicron. Recent articles would say 4 more deaths but would not specify from omicron. That is obfuscation. Number of cases is immaterial with no deaths but only sniffles. As bad as the US is on restricting normal freedoms Australia, NZ, and Canada are all much worse.
