Guess who's back... my 3 digit IQ trading hero. (Sarcasm)

How did those trades go by the way on Eur?

Until we know how deadly the variant is, we have to wait 2 - 4 weeks until numbers start showing... Let the games begin.

Because it's an early warning sign of a possible return to a severe global lockdown consequence. Lots of 'if's' and 'maybe's' but markets operate on the rumour rather than the fact, as everyone wants to be ahead of the herd.

It shouldn't be headline news . It's the catalyst to induce fear via the media . This then gives the markets a reason to unwind and use the fear factor driven by the media to correct .

It's how the masses ( population ) are controlled on a daily basis . Spoon-fed .

How many mutations is this now ? ..... but this one is different - really ? Check out the scare stories from the other many many variants .

Lemmings

I'm sure the Fed will have to stop taper now lol

Rate rises ? No chance if they keep the media mill grinding on this variant .

All doctors in the West have been encouraged to write off deaths as covid only, hardly start investigating what strain it is, now South Africa ( with a poor record on most things) have suddenly discovered a nu strain in its infancy still? This hardly makes sense.

Pfizer: 100 days to produce variant vaccine
if vaccine-escape variant emerges, Companys expect to develop and produce tailor-made vaccine against that variant in about 100 days
Ok, so that is a rough timescale in case this blows up. Also remember that BioNTech expects dat from lab tests on new South African COVID variant in two weeks and that may require a vaccine adjustment.

This is likely to be a slow burn and risk markets are not quite sure what to do. Buy the dip and ditch risk?

With the weekend ahead watch for risk aversion heading into the weekend with significant risk of gapping over the weekend.

Certain segments of the media lapping it up !

https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...-covid-variant

lol

What is the new variant and why is it a concern?
Scientists have detected a new Covid-19 variant called B.1.1.529 and are working to understand its potential implications. About 100 confirmed cases have been identified in South Africa, Hong Kong, Israel and Botswana.

B.1.1.529 has a very unusual constellation of mutations, which are worrying because they could help it evade the body’s immune response and make it more transmissible, scientists have said. Any new variant that is able to evade vaccines or spread faster than the now-dominant Delta variant may pose a significant threat as the world emerges from the pandemic.

Dr Susan Hopkins, the chief medical adviser to the UK Health Security Agency, said the R value, or effective reproduction number, of the B.1.1.529 variant in the South African province of Gauteng, where it was first found, was now 2 – a level of transmission not recorded since the beginning of the pandemic, before restrictions began to be imposed. For an R of anything above 1, an epidemic will grow exponentially.

So the R rate allegedly goes up . What about the mortality rate ?

Any change ?

Guess not . Move along now , nothing to see here .

If we get to MERS 32.7% mortality rate start to worry . Yet strangely enough it's news worthiness wasn't a frenzy like this one . Yes the R rate is high , unless we're not being told the full facts then this is media lead to suit the narrative

MERS couldn’t spread human to human. You had to be close contact with an infected camel. Even our last dangerous bird flu h1n1, it was not human to human transmissible. You had to catch it from a chicken directly.

Really ! You better tell these experts that .

https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMe1308724

In this issue of the Journal, Assiri et al.4 describe the largest outbreak of MERS-CoV infection thus far, showing that the virus is transmitted from human to human. This outbreak occurred in several hospitals in the governorate of Al-Hasa in eastern Saudi Arabia, with transmission probably occurring in dialysis units, intensive care units, and wards. Most patients had underlying diseases, with a remarkable number (17 of 23) having diabetes. In addition to showing that human-to-human transmission occurred frequently, the relatively large number of patients infected in this outbreak made it possible to define characteristics of the infection, such as the incubation time (5.2 days) and the serial interval (7.6 days). As seen in the SARS epidemic, there was variability in the numbers of patients infected by each index patient, with 1 patient transmitting virus to 7 contacts; superspreading events, in which a few patients infected large numbers of contacts, were critical factors in SARS reaching epidemic proportions.
