  • Economy added 943,000 jobs last month, vs. estimate for 850,000

    From nbcnews.com

The economy added 943,000 jobs in July, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said Friday, compared to analysts’ expectations of 850,000 positions added. The unemployment rate plunged to 5.4 from 5.9 percent. While likely to provide a shot of confidence for Wall Street, economists say Friday's data underscores the volatility that remains in the labor market and makes it harder for employers to forecast or invest — and could crimp consumer spending. “It does create some concern,” said James McCann, deputy chief economist at Aberdeen Standard Investments. “The fear that it's picking up on these frictions in the ... And what about your margin call of the other day when boasting before the numbers with your long on dollar? A good trader doesn't get margin calls. This is not a gambling game, this is forex trading.

Yes Don,very true! My question is: Why would you want to trade at all if you reckon it's a gamble? Do you like loosing money? And there's always this S/L hunting story, its plain bull, there's a reason for every pullback, but if you don't know the psychology behind trading you're done, rather go and play golf.

You are being too gentle This place full of wanabees. Good - Nice folk but dont understand risk management.. A professional trader used to handling any kind of volume NEVER gets a margin call.
My bro and I were in OFS business for over two decades. I know no trader in our business has ever suffered a margin call. A colleague did have probs years ago with a CHF trade.. the im-famous reversal of capping the Swiss franc. Happily broker remained solvent and he won case in court.

can somebody explain why the Total nonfarm payroll increase means USD is getting stronger? I mean, more jobs, more consumer spending, and isn't that inflationary?

I really dont want to pursue this on a public forum or come across as know-it-all. But any oldtimer in the mainstream will confirm that as I said the whole business is full of wannabees / Come'nGos and that especially includes folk that class themselves as Prop-Traders.
Fx is a subzero sum game. Why would anyone want to play on a tilted table. ( Absolutely no disrespect.)
"Go figure? .." Fair comment. Our interest originated bcs it is an important hedge medium to safeguard cross currency investments.
So actually figured it a long time ago. And of all the Props and Gurus Fx stars, weve come across in two decades only three have a 100% annual profit record over that period. and sadly each quite different... so no single pattern, or secret formula to be deduced. Except perhaps simple measures like screen-time.
One a savant.. like hes got ESP .. and quite scary. cause in a decade of knowing him I still cant figure his calls and he still cant explain. A second .. an algo developer.. really modest, really nice guy, 90% automated, straight annual wins 15 years, for mainly institutional clients, and third, a total quant.. AI.. Big Blue.. all the trappings.. tries to explain his system every time we meet and looses me shortly after saying hello.. (shows how dumb I am).
But a guy thats become a friend..with same sense of humor and life take..so WTF. Lifes too short.

Inflation is good when consumers can approach it and afford it. Inflation is bad when personal consumption is far out of reach. We need labor force to get back to pre pandemic levels because prior to corona and delta USD was amid a bull run. Things are getting better and technically back to normal, therefore USD has more or less picked up it's fumble. As more become employed, inflation will rise and the idea is to able to reach interest rates back to <2.00%. Hope this helps.
