  • Twitter permanently suspends Trump's account, cites "incitement of violence" risk

    From reuters.com

Twitter Inc said on Friday that it has permanently suspended U.S. President Donald Trump’s account due to the risk of further incitement of violence following the storming of the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday by hundreds of his supporters. “After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence,” the company said in a tweet. Social media companies have cracked down on Trump’s accounts in the wake of the turmoil on Wednesday. Facebook Inc said earlier this week it was suspending ... (full story)

The problem is when you ban people it pushes them further into ideological dark places.

Banning speech is something Nazi's and dictators do, and china still does. I have left Facebook for Miwi.com and have left twitter for parler.com. Not to allow open Political speech from both sides is heading down the road which will lead to war. Please consider quitting for more open platforms which encourage debate.

I am positive that there are 80 million people in the US who agree with you. Also, there are 75 million people in the US who think you are full of it. I think it is a reasonable idea to allow the two groups to talk to each other instead of only talking to themselves and growing more resentful... talking is better than shooting.

This has nothing to do with banning speech. This is about preventing a mental unstable person with power from manipulating his supporters and encouraging them to violence. This is about national security and citizens safety. When you create a profile on a social media platform, you agree to the terms of use. Trump has violated all rules and terms of use and his account should have been suspended long ago. Only a dark net social media platforms will allow this kind of behavior. He has a criminal mind and everything he does, smells lawlessness.

You can talk to someone who understands what you are saying. Otherwise, talking is pointless. Trump listens to himself only. Himself and his ego are the two most important things for him. Everything else is blurred and it does not matter for him.
I am pretty sure that if he was born 100~200 years ago, he would’ve been much worse than Mussolini, Hitler and Napoleon. Thanks good he will be contained next week.

Sadly it appears we are past the point of decent debate. The social media giants are cutting off their nose to spite their face. It is a very poor business model to ban and stifle political speech that you disagree with.

None of this will end well.

edit: By the response of many here (who I ignore because of the hate that pours off their posts) they would do the same. Makes one question the quality of their trading when they think it is a good idea for businesses to be this restrictive.

You are making the private business vs public utility argument about social media. It is a reasonable argument and should be had in public without limiting people's ability to weigh in on the conversation. You are also peppering in the national security/safety angle... If the executive branch was so powerful Trump would be god-emporer for life. Trump will be an ex pres in a few days. The executive branch has limited powers by design.

I believe that current market prices are being artificially elevated. Wallstreet is all awash with glee at the coming end of tariffs so they can go back to their status quo of sticking it to the average American worker.

And the twitter fiasco will take a bit of time before it comes about. This being Friday. Once the advertisers see that their ROI has dropped due to a large number of wage earners being banned or leaving things should change. If not it only proves how manipulated the equities markets really are.

You are right about the inflated market. P/E, P/B, even P/Free Cash is pretty ridiculous across the board (maybe minus energy and materials) I don't understand (even though I probably say it) when people say Wallstreet is this or wallstreet is that... Do you mean the handful of big CEOs at the top of the S&P or the institutions like pension funds that purchase equities? or the Market in general?

I refer to it all in a general way. The big corporations, the three main indices (DOW, S&P, NASDAQ).

Wallstreet is essentially the players who move the stock prices.

The Dow only has 30 stocks. The other two have weighting that allows only a few stocks to push the index ever higher.

One would think with the known assault that the Biden admin will make on the American economy (read their platform and listen to what they say they are going to do) that stock prices would have plummeted. This whole thing may be the classic pump and dump.

That is a real problem. On one hand, I own several of the mega-corporation stocks that you are talking about because of their balance sheet, on the other, in order to get a balance sheet like that they have to use exploitation.

I know what you are saying.

I try to find companies that tend not to go too far in that direction. Blue chips or in that area that pay decent dividends is always a good investment. Accumulate enough over your work life then find a state that is easy on the tax on dividends and it makes for a nice cushion.

You are describing half of my portfolio. I put half into a passive income M1 account of about 50ish different dividend equities from across the sectors. And I agree with your advice on finding ways to limit your tax exposure. I have seen some advertisements for several ETFs that claim to be ethical. The problem I see is that I cannot tell what they mean by ethical.

I think it is up to the individual. An example, I would never buy Nike stock because they have a very poor record when it comes to using cheap Asian labor (besides their in your face woke BS).

When it comes to currencies I don't even think about it. I only trade the 8 majors and the SGD.

I don't purchase Apple products. Foxcon is a company that exploits. I think Apple's excuse is that it's not us it's foxcon that is manipulative. Lame excuse. There is also the greed factor with Apple. iphones are estimated to have a manufacturing cost (which includes labor) of $250 to $300. Then they turn around and sell them for $1000 +. 300+% Hell of a profit.

Do you think the "Cathedral" (borrowed from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curtis_Yarvin)" is purposely trying to rotate power, influence, and wealth or is it a natural response of Adam Smith"s invisible hand?

One question for you:
Why do you ignore people?
You ignore people because you don’t tolerate what the say.
Is this a freedom of speech? ...... no it isn’t because by ignoring them, you suspend their existence within your network of communications.

Freedom of speech is a good ting as long as it doesn’t require humans’ lifes. What Trump is doing requires loss of humans’ lifes and jeopardizes not only US national security, but the global security and democracy around the world.

You are just as selfish as your idol and your motto is the same “Don’t follow what I do! Do what say!” Typical example of totalitarianism.

Please educate yourself about different political models and ways to control the masses and you will rediscover your orange clown there again.

It's really rare to see interesting questions in here.

Adam Smith"s invisible hand is a natural phenomenon let loose in a a free market economy. It is an observation but does not provide much clarification concerning the mechanics involved .. (Karl Marx tried to do just that)
I do not agree with Curtis Yarvin. I believe that both the "Cathedral class" and the "Capitalist class" are always seeking more power.
Personally, I would rather come to terms with the effects of the "Capitalist class" for instance the fact that Elon Musk is the weathiest person on the planet and all that it implies rather than the opportunistic manipulation of the "cathedral class" as exemplified in this Barrack Obama's third term (president "xiben")
The former is just human nature (good and bad)
The latter is abject corruption, manipulation and lies

Interestingly, Markets have cared rather less about Trump and his supporters' Shinanigans in Washington than they have about issues like:-

The Senate effectively swinging Democrat.
The Prospect of a faster rollout of Vaccines.
The rapidly increasing medical crisis gripping the US (and the World.)
The prospect of much larger stimulus Cheques in a couple of weeks.
Corporate prospects going forwards.
Jobs
The Economy
Fiscal support for the economy.
Continuing largesse by the Fed.
Interest rate prospects for the next 2, 5 and 10 years
Fuel (Oil and Gas) pricing, Supply/Demand.

(this list represents but a small proportion of issues that the markets are interested in.)

The question to ask is "Where is the trade opportunity?" If there isn't one, move on...

Google suspends social networking service Parler from its Play Store, saying in a statement: 'We’re aware of continued posting in the Parler app that seeks to incite ongoing violence in the US'
Edit: (App Store expected to follow.)

Small matter of detail..
FB/Twitter/Instagram etc have been accused of flouting the 1st amendment ..freedom of speech.
This applies to Congress and government at all levels, NOT to private/PLCs companies.

If you mean that I said suppressing speech and freedom of speaks is the same thing, I have to ask you to show me when and where I did that.

And speaking of suppressing of speech, we all have seen countless number of times what trump does when a journalist ask him a difficult question. He commands the journalists to sit down, turn off the microphone and shut up, after which he calls the journalist a criminal, a shame for his company and an embarrassment for this country.
This not exactly an attempt to give a chance to both sides to speak, is it! This is suppressing of speech. So you need to ask your orange idol “ How is suppressing speech the same as freedom of speech “, as he is the one calling for freedom of speech for himself and his supporters, while he suppresses everyone who asks him uncomfortable questions and speaks against him.

So why have prisons and formal correctional regimens in society if enforcement of norms (and rules) only push people to dark places. It is about standards - breach them, face the music (whether the music is a hit or not). That is what keeps the rest of us in line for the good of all of us.

The Twitter words in its decision are Kafka on Meth.

In sane legal jurisprudence there is no legal basis for incitement.

Go wave your hands and perspire beads of angst. Outside of The World that is America, there does remain some understanding of what is normal.

The "75 million people" who did vote for him voted BEFORE any of the current messes that he himself brought upon happened. I now wonder how many of the 75mn support his pressuring of election officials across many states to "look the other way", and egging on rioters?

The problem is how we can protect ourselves and democracy in the future from people like him. Internet as it stands now can easily be used for spreading lies and conspiracy theories. There are several rogue nations also who are involved in these activities aimed at demolishing our democracies. Nothing can be taken granted any more.

The protection is on a political level and it should come from there. If most of the republicans weren’t pursuing own/private political and economical interests, the world wouldn’t see this act of domestic terror and insulting of the democracy. A political party should serve the nation, not a single person. What the reps did was - ignoring the interests of the nation and serving the interests of a single person because they were afraid of losing political power. What they achieved is - ruined political future, destabilized democracy and deeply devised society.
What happened in USA must be a lesson for life for the democracies around the world and for the leaders with a political power and something like this must never happen again.

RealRawNews????? Disney on steroids.

Due Dilligence: the original storyline based on an absurd BS fake claiming to show a Delta Force raid on President Barack Obama's "stronghold in Thailand" on Christmas Day 2017. And that too took in a lot of Morons. This one is a remake.. The green “night vision” images are actually promotional images from Columbia Pictures of the movie “Zero Dark Thirty” about the raid on Osama Bin Laden’s compound in Pakistan. The location picture is an image of the IQ Business Center in Ukraine.

We do know Pelosi's computer went missing on Jan 6. She admitted that with Leslie Stahl interview. What was on it and who has it?
The censor of a sitting president by mass media and social blog world in an information age is a coup to silence the Presidents voice.
How come if not about Capitol Hill missing computer on Jan 6?

This what youre talking about???

"Every American is going to receive a text alert from Donald Trump today—whether you like it or not. The “presidential alert” will be tested at various times of the day in each time zone on mobile phones, TV, and radio. It will be simply say: “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.” The system is meant for use in a national emergency and would be issued at the direction of the president. The alerts will start going out 2:18 p.m. Eastern Time, 1:18 p.m. Central Time, 12:18 p.m. Mountain Time, and 11:18 a.m. Pacific Time. The test message will be transmitted in both English and Spanish, with participants deciding which version to use for their communities. Telecom observers say the messages cannot be muted by users.

I really DONT mean any offense to America, or Americans, and I know hes still your President...
BUT The guy is a bloody nutter.

50 states to be tainted and taunted by “resident evil” mob cast, as released by fbi......amazing! Let’s hope none of these resident evil mob cast catches Covid, any chance of not catching - 0%, zero! Not that these mob cast cares for anyone.

Good luck to all these mob cast.

There will be dark places ideologically, but remember with every darkness, there will be light. Just like with every light, there will be shadows. When people are not banned from crossing the line, that is no longer freedom of choice/speech.

Freedom of speech is a privilege, not a right.

It is clear that 'pawns' are put in place of Prime Ministers / Presidents in various Countries so that the 'people' that really run the show can further their own agenda/control.

We have this thing called the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. It says "Congress shall make no law......abridging the freedom of speech.....or the right of the people peaceably to assemble.....

In the USA free speech is a right.

What happened before this First Amendment in history - physical fighting all round. Therefore rather than looking what is present, one needs to know the privilege, not right. Rights comes after years of fighting before reconciliation comes into place. That is history.

First amendment was not born by birth right, it was a progressive approach.
