Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov predicted on Thursday an unprecedented financial and economic crisis, pointing to countries going bankrupt or having 15% budget deficits because of the pandemic.

“There is no country that has a sufficient buffer. We must be quick and flexible in measures, in supporting businesses and people, in providing medicines, vaccines, as the pandemic around the world is becoming more complicated, and the number of deaths, unfortunately, remains high,” said Borissov, adding that Bulgaria ranks 14th in Europe in terms of infections.

From 4 January, Bulgaria’s first to fourth-grade pupils will return to school and nurseries and kindergartens will reopen. Nightclubs, gambling halls, casinos, restaurants and sports halls will remain closed until 31 January, while museums, galleries and cinemas will open at 30% capacity as of 1 January.
