WIESBADEN – As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the index of import prices decreased by 4.3% in September 2020 compared with the corresponding month of the preceding year. In August 2020 and in July 2020 the annual rates of change were -4.0% and -4.6%, respectively. From August 2020 to September 2020 the index rose by 0.3%.
The index of import prices, excluding crude oil and mineral oil products, decreased in September 2020 by 1.9% compared with September 2019.
The index of export prices decreased by 1.1% in September 2020 compared with the corresponding month of the preceding year. In August 2020 and in July 2020 the annual rates of change were also -1.1%, each. From August 2020 to September 2020 the index slightly rose by 0.1%.

The import prices are also part of the "Crises monitor", which is used by the Federal Statistical Office to compare the development of major short-term indicators between the corona crisis and the financial and economic crisis of 2008/2009.
