WIESBADEN - As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the index of import prices decreased by 7.0% in May 2020 compared with the corresponding month of the preceding year. In April 2020 and in March 2020 the annual rates of change were -7.4% and -5.5%, respectively. From April 2020 to May 2020 the index rose by 0.3%.

The index of import prices, excluding crude oil and mineral oil products, decreased in May 2020 by 2.8% compared with May 2019 and in comparison with April 2020 it fell by 0.4%.

The index of export prices decreased by 1.2% in May 2020 compared with the corresponding month of the preceding year. This has been the highest price decrease compared to the previous year since July 2016 (-1.5%). In April 2020 and in March 2020 the annual rates of change were -1.1% and -0.5%, respectively. From April 2020 to May 2020 the index fell by 0.2%.
