Access DataBase for Trade Data?

Anyone out there keep their trade data on a data base? I'm trying to design one so I don't have to keep my trade data and risk profile across several different spread sheets.

Anyone done that? If so would you be willing to lend a hand? I'm a complete noobie to databases and am pulling out my hair trying to understand the concept and how to do calculations like a spread sheet does.
