I spent a little time with Buddy today. He has developed some awful habits.
Lets back up a bit.
For the last two years my schedule and life had been flipped over, as a result the amount of time I was able to spend with Buddy was basically nothing. So in order to keep him active with things my wife incorporated him into her little horse program. But unbeknownst to my wife there were a few kids that did not stick to the standard they had been taught when it comes to handling horses. Buddy developed some bad habits. His size is of such that most people cannot handle him if he acts up. About 1500 lbs. So he got away with about anything he wants. Then three months ago bucked a girl off hurting her a bit. I guess she was also the biggest culprit with inconsistencies we found out latter.
Buddy is now on the path of consistency and discipline, which will lead to good habits.
All this should sound familiar to traders. Consistency to a trading plan. Discipline to follow the plan, placing every trade that conforms to the plans criteria for entry. Developing good trading habits. If things go awry, we refer back to our standard. If you have no standard, there is no idea of direction. No better then Buddy bucking off a little girl because he is frustrated. Even horses love consistency, discipline, and good habits.
__Who am I?
I am your constant companion. I am your greatest helper or heaviest burden. I will push you onward or drag you down to failure. I am completely at your command. Half of the things you do you might just as well turn over to me and I will be able to do them quickly and correctly.
I am easily managed – you must merely be firm with me. Show me exactly how you want something done and after a few lessons, I will do it automatically. I am the servant of all great individuals and, alas, of all failures, as well. Those who are great, I have made great. Those who are failures, I have made failures.
I am not a machine, though I work with the precision of a machine plus the intelligence of a human. You may run me for profit or run me for ruin – it makes no difference to me.
Take me, train me, be firm with me, and I will place the world at your feet. Be easy with me and I will destroy you.
Who am I?
I am Habit._
