Warning

These provisional results are only preliminary data. Accordingly, they should not be used for contractual revaluations. The indices published here are based on a limited set of price observations and from estimates of some rates of change for fares which are not yet available. The complete results will be published on 16 February 2024.

Over a year, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) should rise by 3.1% in January 2024, after +3.7% in December, according to the provisional estimate made at the end of the month. This decrease in inflation should be due to the slowdown over one year in prices of energy, food and manufactured products. Contrariwise, those of services and tobacco should accelerate.

Over one month, consumer prices should fall back slightly in January 2024 (‑0.2% after +0.1% in December). This decline should be due to the decrease of prices of manufactured products, in particular those of clothing and footwear. The prices of tobacco should sharply increase, while those of food, services and energy should increase slightly over one month.

Year on year, the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices should rise by 3.4% in January 2024, after +4.1% in December. Over one month, it should decrease slightly (‑0.2% after +0.1% in the previous month).
