Japan National CPI: World’s Third Largest Economy Sinks Deeper into Deflation
The consumer price index for Japan in April 2016 was 103.4 (2010=100), up 0.2% from the previous month, and down 0.3% over the year. The consumer price index for Ku-area of Tokyo in May 2016 (preliminary) was 102.0 (2010=100), the same level as the previous month, and dJapan sunk deeper into deflation last month, creating fresh headaches for policymakers that have yet to solve the country’s decades-long battle with weak price growth.
