The debate started with an essay, “You’ll Never Be Chinese: It Is Time to Leave the Country I Loved,” by former magazine publisher Mark Kitto, a British 16-year resident of China. • “You’ll Never Be Chinese: It Is Time to Leave the Country I Loved,”. I ask myself the same question: "Am I a Chinese? Do I think like most Chinese do?"

    • The US is unique among nations in that we don't care where you come from or what race or nationality you are. Learn english, work hard, adopt our culture & you are just as American as anyone else. Not true in any other country I know of.

    • The CPC and govt make Chinese people believe that western countries have an evil agenda against China and therefore foreigners in China should be guarded against. While that line works with some Chinese who are told in the Chinese system not to think and challenge, for many Chinese who have lived / worked overseas and have come to understand western values and cultures, that is just plain brain-washing. Unfortunately only the unthinking and unchallenging Chinese get ahead in the CPC and govt system, which perpetuates the suspicion and propaganda against westerners.
